Tasteful, classic, simple 1873 farmhouse with 5 bedrooms, situated on 7 rolling acres, surrounded by streams and forest, perennial gardens, a barn to have candlelight dinners, an epic outdoor stone fireplace and access to waterfall at adjoining property with a swimming hole. A magical escape for family and friends - the quintessential summer rental. Conveniently located 10 minutes from Saugerties and the 87, and towns like Palenville, Catskill, Hudson & Woodstock.

The space

Over the years we have truly loved our country home - it has been wonderful rejuvenating escape for years for our family and friends. It is large enough for one to have privacy if desired. Because of the layout of the house and the land there are many activities to keep everyone occupied alone or as a group. We have tried to maintain the simple historic beauty, lines and decor of the farmhouse adding a few contemporary touches over the years. There is an office/study on the main floor that one can work at and also an art studio upstairs with incredible light to work in. The glass dining room has sliding doors that can be opened completely or screened in to have wonderful dinners with a feeling of openness and nature. The kitchen is a joy to cook in. The property is surrounded on 2 sides with streams and the waterfall so there is a lovely sound of flowing water in the back ground. There is a state forest that begins at the side/front of house so you have a feeling of seclusion and privacy. We often open the 2 sets of barn doors, light our electric candles and either sit or have dinners at the table and take in the view of the forest. There was a historic house on the property - some of the stone foundations are still there and we use the old stone fireplace with a stone patio to relax or cook at. There is a sense of light and air and space with rolling lawns and lovely gardens. We love the sense of solitude and the convenience of the location being so accessible to nearby towns. After 30 years this will be the first time we have offered our home to others to rent and hopefully enjoy it as much as we have.

Guest access

As our guests you will have full access to all of the house and land and outbuildings. Over the many years we have been coming to our country house we have rarely seen anyone at the waterfall & stream, and even though it is not actually on our property it is more or less land-locked and difficult for anyone to access - you walk down the stone steps at the end of lawn follow the path and you will arrive at the most magical spot for swimming and taking in the beauty of the falls.

Interaction with guests

We have our friend Judy as well as our handyman Tim that will be available should you have any questions or problems.

Other things to note

If a small dog is part of your family we may consider the possibility of them joining you for additional cleaning fee. We would prefer a non-allergenic breed as our family members have allergies to animals. Sorry, but cats cannot be accommodated for this reason.

We loved this house!! It was much bigger than the photos represented, but was still incredibly quaint and charming. We cannot wait to rent this house again!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Maira's home. The house is truly magical and although it sounds like a cliché the photos don't do it justice. There is a great flow of space and the house has a really lovely feeling. We had 3 boys ages 7 to 9 in our party and they were bowled over by the waterhole / waterfall. The apple tv was super handy for a little respite for parents! All the rooms are a good size. Lots of different spaces to enjoy for different moments of the day and we had a party night for the kids last night in the barn - decorated it with glow sticks which was really special. The ping pong table was great fun too. I had to be in touch with my office in London while staying and the internet was great so could (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) and get documents etc. Finally - the location, each day we went out exploring confirmed what a great spot this was. We were around 25 minutes maximum to everywhere we wanted to visit - Phoenicia, Hudson, North-South Lake at Hunter Mountain plus had Saugerties on our doorstep. We didn't eat out as much as we had thought we would but Miss Lucy's in Saugerties is excellent and Stella's for ice-cream. The wine shop in Saugerties is also really good. Judy was really responsive to any questions we had and got Tim to deal quickly with a wasp nest on the porch. The plate of cookies as a welcome was a lovely touch. Loved it! Thank you Maira & Judy

We had spent a week with our friends and kids in Maira's house and loved every minute of it. Starting with the house itself: simple, comfortable, spacious with an amazing dinning space and a well equipped kitchen it was a true home away from home. The surrounding land, complete with your own private waterfall was nothing short of magical. Making smores in the outdoor fireplace or playing badmington outside or ping-pong inside the house, swimming in the waterfall or having homemade dinners followed by the board games in the dinning room that has its walls slide out to make it feel like you are outdoors was all (and much more) that we could have hoped for to find in a perfect vacation home. Thank you Maira for sharing it with us!

How do you describe such a magical place? First, the grounds are just jaw-dropping (a waterfall on property, terraced landscape) and the house is big, clean and beautiful. We didn't get a chance to speak with Maira, but Judy - the house manager - was fantastic. She was quick to respond to any glitches/questions. Perfect place for a family gathering and lovely property to just decompress. One item of note, this house is in the country and it is old (but beautiful). We saw a few critters in and out of the house but that is to be expected.

We loved our stay at Maira's Farmhouse! It was true to the pictures and a very charming place to stay. The house was clean, airy, and peaceful. We will definitely be back! Maira was easy to communicate with. And with the help from Judy, the key exchange was seamless. Both were gracious and very welcoming. It really felt like home.

The title of the listing is spot-on -- the place is truly magical. Two streams, a waterfall with swimming hole, an old outdoor fireplace that's part of an abandoned stone house on the grounds ... the whole thing transports you. We had a great time. Our little kids (age 4) had a blast at the swimming hole and exploring the riverbed. The dining room has a large table that's surrounded by glass walls, which makes you feel like you're eating in the forest. And the outdoor barn was a great spot for a communal lunch. Highly, highly recommended.

I am an author illustrator who lives in NYC. I love to travel. I have owned this wonderful country home for over 30 years and it has been a life saving escape from the rigors of city life. The house is simple and clean. It is a restorative meeting place for family and friends. There is a bird nest in the porch every year.
