About this listing
Old world luxury upgraded with modern finishes. I've been working on the house the last few months and now it's ready for new memories!
The house is wonderfully situated - less than 10 minutes East of the Joshua Tree town, the perfect combination of easily accessible, quiet and serene.
This home is such an experience to sleep/wake up in.
It's as close to a home on Mars as we'll (likely!) ever get.
The home features a glorious covered dining area with views of the National Park.
An historic house tucked away at the foothills of an amazing private landscape, this was a former home of a military commander, and has been reimagined as a getaway vacation space. It is probably one of the most private/secluded yet accessible locations available on Airbnb in Joshua Tree.
Just a few minutes east from town, this location provides accessibility to all the tourist spots and is privately secluded to enjoy a Joshua Tree experience with nature. Nestled between a gorgeous hillside and Indian Cove rock formations the location is truly special.
The house was built in in the 50's, making it one of the original structures out here. While fixing the place up, we tried to modernize it but stay true to some of the old character you cannot buy these days. There are 3 bedrooms with queen sized beds, 2 in the main house and one is the satellite cabin. The couch is a large 8ft by 6ft L shape, with mattress-grade high density foam cushions.
The house has the mini auxiliary cabin that is an original structure turned into a satellite 3rd bedroom for additional guests. It is included in the booking when it is more than 4 guests or can be added on for $30 for more space. The cowboy pool or 'cowboy cool dip' is 6ft by 2ft high (dips not laps!), May-October. Depending on the temperature you'd like it to be, it has a solar cover that ups it a bunch but is otherwise not heated. The house has an evaporative cooler (really great eco-friendly cooling devices that only work in low humidity regions), a brick charcoal grill by the pool, wifi, a 55 inch 4k TV with Netflix and HBO, a fully stocked kitchen with all you would need to cook (olive oil, spices, coffee, tea) as well as fresh linens and towels.
The house and all of its property will be solely to you, the calm, and the quiet of California's high desert :)
Interaction with guests
I'm here as needed!
I've worked so hard on the place, it truly feels like an extension of myself. I ask that you please be respectful of it and the surrounding nature.
All film or photo related bookings need explicit permission prior to putting in a reservation request. Regardless of the particular budget, we have to charge additional fees due to the nature of these bookings and our prior experiences :/
No music is allowed outside, and please only very respectfully inside. The house is secluded and private but any sound travels at the speed of light in the thin unobstructed desert air and miles away neighbors can get cranky!
Any guests above the number the booking was made for must be announced beforehand, even if they're "not staying over" ! Thank you!

I'm Ryan, I've been out in Joshua Tree for 3 years. Falling in love with the high desert kind of took me my surprise. It is so incredibly peaceful, tranquil, serene, and inspirational. It's a great place to 'get away from it all' and discover your connections with nature and with yourself. I have a few places out here, all projects that I bought in rundown rough shape and fixed up myself.
My first one is in the Joshua Tree Village (JT Village Park Blvd one) that is rented as a house (for up to 4 people), a guest house (2 people, JT Village GH one), and both together (6-7 people, the "Full Experience" listing). They're within walking distance to the little town: the Saloon, Crossroads, the local Farmer's market, the National Park Visitor's center, the JT Health Foods store.
The other ones (360, Land of the Lost Boulders, Starfire, Chaparral Mesa, the Power Plant and the Outpost) are all within 15 minutes from the town. The Leeds Cabin is 25 minutes. 360 is about incredible views, boulders, and wildlife - more adorable animals than I've seen anywhere in the Morongo Basin. The Lost Boulders house sits on the most serene and explorable land, and has a spectacular energy inside. Starfire has an unmatched setting - perched on top of a hill, the only house on that hill, overlooking it's own mini canyon. The design and feeling at Chaparral Mesa is the most 'frontier'' - a true feeling of being a pioneer in a homesteader cabin. The Power Plant of the Dorthian Löwen (looow-ven), all about sleek modern minimal design, a clutter-free experience that brings out the gorgeous desert colors in the mountains that surround. The Leeds Cabin is a small all-you-need cabin with nothing but beautiful quiet desert surrounds. My most recent project, the Outpost, I picture back in the Wild West a place that you've traveled for a full day to get to, to find out news from back East and rest your head and horse for the night.
I love each and every one of them, they've all been important and valued stages in my life. They have become a part of who I am.
I'd be happy to help plan your time out here, and let me know if you have any questions about the projects or the area in general. They are much more than 'airbnb's to me - I love each and every one of them!
