Our home is a pleasant 10 min walk from TONS of restaurants & dining in Downtown Royal Oak, 15 minute drive South down Woodward to Downtown Detroit or 15min North on Woodward to Birmingham/Bloomfield Hills, also close to misc. arts, culture, & family-friendly activities (the zoo is one block away)! Your room is located on the 2nd floor of a beautiful white-brick 1920s home. It's a nice, immaculately clean room with beautiful natural light, good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers.

The space

Pets are allowed for $30 extra per night, but you will have to confirm that they are 100% house broken! And may be asked to crate them if you are leaving the house without them.. as we have had some problems with both things in the past :)

Guest access

You will have your own bedroom that has a locking door and full-size bed, 3 big windows, a nice desk, a book shelf, and a great closet with tons of shelves and drawers and a small bar for hanging clothes. You also have a beautiful, recently redone bathroom on the same floor as your bedroom with a toilet, sink/vanity, jacuzzi bathtub and a large shower with bench (people say this one of the best showers they've experienced! lol). On the first floor of the house you have access to all of the rooms and patio and front porch as long as you do not leave messes of any sort behind!! :)

Interaction with guests

We can be there upon your arrival and we are not home a ton. If you want to hang out and talk we love having a glass of wine with guests on the back patio or by the fire, but are also happy to meet you once and then just let you do your thing!!

Other things to note

Check-in and check-out times are flexible when possible, up to 24 hours a day, but generally sometime after noon (12pm) is preferred for check-in and if we have someone leaving the room the same day you arrive check-in might have to be at 3:00pm (check with us). Also sometime before noon is preferred for check-out, but check to see if we have anyone coming after you, if not you can leave whenever!!

My stay at Audrey's place was exactly what I needed. From start to finish my communication with her was swift and friendly, and she made the entire process easy. Since I work from home a few days/week, I used the entire house and outdoor area, which was quiet and really peaceful. I also enjoyed spending time with Audrey and Jennifer; they respected my privacy/space when I wanted (I can be pretty introverted) but were warm & fun when I wanted to engage. The room and house itself is exactly as pictured and very clean (cleanliness is huge for me.) In addition, it's literally the BEST shower I've ever had. The bathroom, with full big jacuzzi bathtub, heated floors, and a lovely shower was the highlight. I could live in that bathroom! I enjoyed my stay so much I extended for an entire month. The location is perfect - I could walk 10 mins or drive 3 mins to my favorite local coffee shop every day, the area is quiet but not sleepy, and there's enough restaurants/activities around to enjoy the city. I totally recommend staying here and I'll definitely be back. Thanks Audrey & Jennifer!

The house is beautiful and well located. You should be aware though there may be other Airbnb guests staying there. There were 3 other guests during my stay. The bathroom is listed as private but you share it with other guests. You access the bathroom through the hallway so I wouldn't say that it is private. Also there are pets allowed and another guest brought her cat who made quite a racket in the middle of the night trying to get back in the house through my bedroom window. Overall, not a great experience.

Audrey, is the daughter who handled the booking and most of my questions. I learned later she was handling this task from out of state. She seemed personable and was quick in response. Jennifer is the mother whom lives in the house. Traveling with pets wasn't easy and I was happy to find a place that would accept my cat and small dog. I booked for a few days in the "blue room" to test it out. I liked the way Jennifer shared wine with the new people, introducing the new guests w the old. I booked an extension for over two weeks. Maybe that was her public persona? Soon, the other guests left. I tried to leave as light of a footprint on the house as possible, meaning I left w my dog until 8 pm or later and let my cat roam around outside, but sometimes he slept inside. Sometimes I made breakfast or cooked dinner, always cleaning up after myself. Jennifer and I often missed each other since she was usually gone by early morning, often arriving home after 10:30 pm Crossing paths with her was a chance for her to let me know she was on to me about something like the wetness on the rug. I let her know I had cleaned up dog vomit w enzyme cleaner earlier. That incident seemed to put her on hyper alert for urine smells or pet poo when I saw her many times w gloves and a bottle of pet stain remover, which she later admitted she couldn't find anything. I was reprimanded for running the dishwasher when it was not full enough. And, I thought I was being helpful. Walking around w a coffee cup up the stairs was apparently a no no and w asked to put a plate underneath it. There were a few nights when I was sweating from the heat and asked her for a new set of sheets. She didnt seem too happy that I couldn't wait another 4 days for the house cleaner to do it. The walking on eggshell feel built to a crescendo in the preparation of two new guests who would be arriving within a week. I had been given notice that someone had prebooked the room I was in months earlier. I was told I could stay in her daughter's room until he left. The problem was that her daughter's closet was full and I had a lot of clothes, boxes and files filled w important legal documents that still needed organizing, but I couldn't complain since it was free. When changing the sheets on the bed I was in, Jennifer asked what happened to one of them , insinuating I had taken it until she found it. She later asked if I wanted her daughter' sheets changed since she had recently visited. Most people would, I would think, but Jennifer again seemed put out when I said, yes. She later shouted out for me to remove...

Audrey was away the night i stayed, but i was quickly greeted by Jennifer. Actually even before arriving at the door i was greeted by her friendly cat. She is a great host, with a beautiful place. The bathroom is on its own floor along with the bedroom and some other rooms that seemed to be empty that night. The house is apparently from the 1920s. Although the flooring, doors, and lack of electrical outlets match the house's age, the plumbing fixtures and kitchen seemed modern and upscale. There was plenty of street parking, and the keys and wifi worked fine. I would stay there again.

Quiet residential neighborhood. Beautiful home and kind host. Great shower too!
