The space

In the heart of the vibrant Bushwick art and music scene, my place is a wonderful, spacious, quiet oasis!
I am a sculptor and have lived and worked in this space for 15 years. It’s a private one story building, 14’ ceilings in front work/studio area, loft floor in back. Upstairs has a cozy bedroom with queen-sized bed, and bright, spacious, comfortable living area with couch (which can foldout), office area, and a shower.
The kitchen is efficient but not fancy: a small convection oven, microwave, hot plate, and coffeemaker. Another large bedroom downstairs with queen size bed. Small bathroom downstairs. AC, internet, landline. Total indoor space is 1200 sq ft. Wonderful old style live/work space built by artist. Not slick, very Brooklyn.
Best of all: a huge private sunny garden/outdoor area (over 2,500 square feet) through which you enter the building, and can hang out when the weather is good! Rose bushes, flowers, grape vines, fruit trees, and more. Great for pets! Parking for two cars. Extremely private. The down side is mosquitoes and flies, they are a nuisance it is true. Great for artist or pair of artists, a whole family, people visiting NY to sightsee, or for festivals, or short term work.
During the summer guests has the run of the whole place. There are rare occasions when I might be in town and need to spend a night or two there. I keep the place as clean as possible, but it is an old warehouse building, definitely a pioneer artist set up. I have a Ford F150 pickup truck that I park in the yard, and I use part of the yard as my outdoor sculpture studio. I am easy going and friendly; I will get along with guests who are quiet, clean, respectful of my property, and self-sufficient.
Just down the block the neighborhood is bustling with activity and artistic movement. Every day new restaurants, bars, clubs, art galleries, boutiques and specialty food stores open. It's a very diverse community: income, ethnicity, and occupation are all quite varied. Across Bushwick Ave are public housing projects. Across the street is the sanitation department truck repair. So right around my place is still quite industrial and rough looking, while just blocks away much has transitioned to artist's lofts, restaurants, stores, etc.
-5 blocks from subways: L (Morgan or Montrose), JM (Flushing); 20 minutes to Manhattan.
-laundromat across the street
-restaurants (Roberta's, Momo Sushi Shack, Tutu's etc.), bars, cafes, and galleries all within a few blocks; Bushwick has become one of the most vibrant artistic communities in NY (and the world)!

Guest access

Certain months (usually summer and fall) guests have the run of the whole place. At other times I rent most of the space but keep the downstairs bedroom. At other times I will live with a guest as with a roommate. Prices vary accordingly.

Interaction with guests

I am friendly and easy going. I usually work in my studio during the day. I am happy to show people around the neighborhood a bit, give them tips on where to go and what to see. I travel a lot for my work, so am often out of town.

Wendy is a good communicator: she promptly replied to our booking request and all other questions. She was out of town when we arrived but was always reachable by email, once again, very prompt, and she gave us useful info regarding subway, shops, areas. Wendy's place is quirky and very peaceful (no noise in the morning!), with subway and shops nearby.

Not everyone will appreciate Wendy's place or Bushwick. But we absolutely loved it especially after the hastle of Manhatten. It's an artist's studio and one has to accept that it hasn't got all the confort and that one washes one's teeth in the kitchen ! For us it was part of the New York experience and we felt at home at Wendy's. And we loved Bushwick because it was full of "real" people : on the one side popular and rather poor, on the other trendy and arty with lofts and artists' studios. It is easy to get into Manhattan : two tube lines, about 20 minutes to Manhattan and 5-10 min to Williamsburg and the rest of Brooklyn. We never got to meet Wendy, but she is so nice and helpful and replies very quickly to our mails. Thanks for everything Wendy. You'll be seeing us again and this time I hope we will meet.

Wendy's place is awesome. It's a hidden little gem with her own personal artwork, which is beautiful, on display. It was super spacious and comfortable. Everything I needed was there.

Wendy is amazing! I had great time in NYC, staying at the place. The neighborhood is cool, and the apartment (and the yard) is quite and private. It's not very clean, since it's a rebuilt warehouse, but it was perfect for me - hot water, equipped kitchen and awesome private garden, where I loved to chill in the night. Wendy, you're a great host and it's a pleasure to meet you and I am very grateful for you being so helpful and nice! Hope to see you again. Thanks for my awesome vacation (:

This place is a huge warehouse in a great location with plenty of place to work and create. If you can handle it a bit different - it's a bit tricky to get in and out of the padlocked gate, the rooms are a bit funnily placed as is the shower, and it's not an apartment! but all in all it's well worth booking

Wendy's place is amazing. It has character and convenience. The neighbourhood was great, the subway is super close and makes everywhere from manhattan to queens to the Bronx accessible. We didn't get to meet Wendy, but she was very helpful and communicative via message and gave us her number in case we needed to call her. Would recommend Wendy's place to anyone looking for a unique NYC experience.
