In the heart of the vibrant Bushwick art and music scene, my place is a wonderful, spacious, quiet oasis!
I am a sculptor and have lived and worked in this space for 15 years. It’s a private one story building, 14’ ceilings in front work/studio area, loft floor in back. Upstairs has a cozy bedroom with queen-sized bed, and bright, spacious, comfortable living area with couch (which can foldout), office area, and a shower.
The kitchen is efficient but not fancy: a small convection oven, microwave, hot plate, and coffeemaker. Another large bedroom downstairs with queen size bed. Small bathroom downstairs. AC, internet, landline. Total indoor space is 1200 sq ft. Wonderful old style live/work space built by artist. Not slick, very Brooklyn.
Best of all: a huge private sunny garden/outdoor area (over 2,500 square feet) through which you enter the building, and can hang out when the weather is good! Rose bushes, flowers, grape vines, fruit trees, and more. Great for pets! Parking for two cars. Extremely private. The down side is mosquitoes and flies, they are a nuisance it is true. Great for artist or pair of artists, a whole family, people visiting NY to sightsee, or for festivals, or short term work.
During the summer guests has the run of the whole place. There are rare occasions when I might be in town and need to spend a night or two there. I keep the place as clean as possible, but it is an old warehouse building, definitely a pioneer artist set up. I have a Ford F150 pickup truck that I park in the yard, and I use part of the yard as my outdoor sculpture studio. I am easy going and friendly; I will get along with guests who are quiet, clean, respectful of my property, and self-sufficient.
Just down the block the neighborhood is bustling with activity and artistic movement. Every day new restaurants, bars, clubs, art galleries, boutiques and specialty food stores open. It's a very diverse community: income, ethnicity, and occupation are all quite varied. Across Bushwick Ave are public housing projects. Across the street is the sanitation department truck repair. So right around my place is still quite industrial and rough looking, while just blocks away much has transitioned to artist's lofts, restaurants, stores, etc.
-5 blocks from subways: L (Morgan or Montrose), JM (Flushing); 20 minutes to Manhattan.
-laundromat across the street
-restaurants (Roberta's, Momo Sushi Shack, Tutu's etc.), bars, cafes, and galleries all within a few blocks; Bushwick has become one of the most vibrant artistic communities in NY (and the world)!
Certain months (usually summer and fall) guests have the run of the whole place. At other times I rent most of the space but keep the downstairs bedroom. At other times I will live with a guest as with a roommate. Prices vary accordingly.
Interaction with guests
I am friendly and easy going. I usually work in my studio during the day. I am happy to show people around the neighborhood a bit, give them tips on where to go and what to see. I travel a lot for my work, so am often out of town.
Leave the place as you found it.
No smoking, no wild parties. Always lock up when you leave!
I am a sculptor living in Brooklyn NY. I usually spend summers in New Hampshire. I exhibit my work throughout the United States, and sometimes abroad. I specialize in large scale outdoor steel pieces.
