Makana Hale is located walking distance to a beautiful beach and a 10 minute drive from Tunnels Beach and the trailhead to the Na Pali Coast or 10 minutes from Hanalei town and the Bay. This family friendly house has a fenced in yard and plenty of room both inside and out. Featuring 2 spacious bedrooms/2 baths with a large Master Suite. Also a cooks kitchen with separate dining room and a large covered area under the house for BBQ and lounging.All rates include taxes.


The space

Hale Makana is walking distance to a beautiful beach and a short drive to the Tunnels beach area and the Na Pali Coast trailhead. Driving about 10 minutes in the opposite direction will take you Hanalei town and Hanalei Bay.

This is a single family home so you will have access to the whole house.

The house is well planned and is spacious. The location is fantastic if you like the north shore of Kauai. We were very comfortable but a bit dismayed with the condition of the house- it is very old and the carpet and upholstery require an urgent change over...

We appreciate all feedback-however the owner was just there before their arrival and we recently had the carpets cleaned. The home was cleaned thoroughly on the day of their arrival. When these guests checked out the home was quite a mess-the housekeeper had to bring in extra help to get the home in order for the next arriving guest. The carpet had stains from something like wine or red juice spilled on it and a paper towel holder was broken. We contacted the guest and they are now disputing the extra charges. The home has been well maintained-new appliances were recently installed and updated furnishings added. The owners come to stay twice per year and have done upgrades each time. We had difficulty communicating with this guest-we asked for a cell phone contact # and e-mail address so we could reach them before arrival and during their stay. We did not get a response until the day of their arrival. We did not hear from them until 2 days before they were due to check out and wanted to extend. They did not mention any problems with the property until now. Nap Pali Properties Management

The listing and accompanying satellite photos were very helpful. The process was through a property management company, who were extremely communicative and helpful. The house was larger than we expected and exceptionally comfortable .... 2 bedrooms, but it seems two futon like couches could handle a couple more people easily. Very well stocked kitchen with quality utensils etc. A block from a wonderful beach (altho not the best swimming beach in the area) that provide amazing Sunrises, as well as a night sky with zillions of stars. But, you can also walk on the beach all the way to the end, passing Tunnels and Ke'e Beach (about 2.5 miles). The Hale is a few minute drive to each of these, as well as Haena State park, altho parking is a bear, unless you go, say before 10am. Drive down to Ke'e Beach around 6pm, when easier to park, to take in incredible sunsets. The Hale is a slow (who's in a rush!?) 15 minute drive back to Hanalei. If the Ke'e Beach traffic crowd is too much, just go to Hanalei Bay for swimming.... not nearly as crowded, but a wonderful beach. The neighborhood is right next to the Hanalei Colony "Resort" (small cluster of condos) that have a small art and coffee store and a surprisingly high quality restaurant called the Mediterranean Gourmet. Terrific views of the ocean and diverse Mediterranean menu (include homemade Baba Ghanoush and Hummus), with usual standard fare entrees. It seems to be highly rated on Zagat. If you just don't want to cook that night nor take the drive up and back to Hanalei.... it's a real good choice. All in all, a real comfortable and nice place to hang in the greener side of Kauai for more solitude than the rest of the island. Of course, it's a 1 1/2 hour drive to Poipu and probably 2 1/2 hours up to Waimea Canyon, but ya can't have it all!
