Relax, enjoy this beautiful watermill with us. Large rooms with high ceilings, beautifully decorated and the sound the water humming you to sleep at night. The burgundy is known for it's wines, and cute little towns. We hope to see you soon.

The space

Taking life slow. Real slow. That's our motto here on our Mill. 'Moulin du Merle' is a watermill (1697) turned into an villa (1850). Surrounded by water, fruit trees, and hills. The villa has beautiful rooms, with high ceilings and wooden floorboards , all giving you an instantaneously holiday feeling.

The villa has 5 stylish decorated rooms, with large windows, facing the garden and the water. Moulin du Merle is also available for groups and can sleep up to 20 people. There is plenty of communal space but also plenty of private space to retreat.

There are books to read, trees to climb, a swim hole to swim and lots of spaces to relax and enjoy the lazy french country life. Your host Gilberthe loves to cook, and likes to use fresh vegetables from her vegetable patch. Vegetarian meals available. Large breakfast is available at a small charge.

If you need a peaceful quiet place to read, write or relax, there is plenty of space to retreat. The salon, the garden with it's huge trees to sit in the shade. The porch, little terraces. Or the fireplace (inside and outside) to spend time with the other guests or your family.
For the ones who like a bit more activity
during their holidays: cycling, kayaking, climbing are among the possibilities. There are wines caves and monasteries in the areas and plenty of markets, secondhand markets or museums to visit. The Mill is on the Santiago de Compostella route and we host pilgrims on a regular basis.
We hope to see you soon and can't wait to give you and your family a lovely time.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The rooms are large, the kitchen is well-equipped, the whole house is beautiful, the children could play in the garden and in the little pond.

Located in the beautiful Burgundy countryside, you can't help but feel at peace upon arrival. This is the perfect place to come, get away, and relax. I went with family for a weekend getaway and our group of 8 had the house to ourselves. We enjoyed staying in, cooking, drinking wine, and playing games. Although the house is a bit secluded, you're close enough to take day trips if you're inclined. Gilberthe, the owner, has many great ideas!

I would highly recommend Gilberthe and her Idyllic Watermill! It was exactly as described! My husband and I were there for a few days for an anniversary trip and loved our stay. Our bedroom was warm and cozy with a breathtaking view. All of the meals we had there were delicious. We spent a lovely day in nearby Clamecy and had one of the best lunches of our entire trip. But I have to say that the best day there, we spent the afternoon lounging in the hammock with the beautiful surroundings listening to the birds sing reading a good book! I will never forget it! Gilberthe and Dries took very good care of us. We so enjoyed our time with them! Thank you so very much!

I'd love to be able to leave a better review because the Moulin de Merle is clearly a labor of love and Gilberthe seems like an incredibly warm and welcoming lady, but caveats need to be added to this place's description so people with expectations similar to mine know what they're getting into. This location is in the middle of nowhere. We drove almost three hours with a setting sun, through woods that seemed to become progressively more foreboding. The towns we went through were certainly picturesque, but with no one around they felt incredibly creepy and lifeless. At one point we drove for over an hour without seeing another person or car pass us. When we got there the house was not what I expected. The photos look bright and clean and lively. The house itself felt cluttered and cramped. Although the rooms themselves were clean, many areas like the balcony outside the Blue room were covered in spiderwebs, and other detritus. If I were visiting family this wouldn't bother me, but this was described as an operating Bed and Breakfast. We had the Blue Room with a private bath. The baths are usually shared, but Gilberthe had offered for the bath to be private and I took her up on it. Including this private bathroom, there were 4 doors to our room not counting the access to the balcony. At first try, only 2 of them locked. Driss the man who welcomed us, managed to get only one of them locked, and went into the other room to push something in front of the doorway in the other room so people couldn't come into our room. The house is certainly quiet, so quiet in fact that any activity at night is clearly heard. People walking around, talking, literally anything. I had fully expected for this to have been the best experience in our 2 week long road trip through Europe, but it was by far the biggest disappointment. It is hard for me to write this review, I was a host myself and I know the work that goes into keeping the listing ready for guests, but Airbnb works due to frank reviews both by guests and hosts, and I felt the responsibility to share my experience.

We were made very welcome and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Interesting olde worldly style house with real candelabra over the dinner table. Our bedrooms were large and had fire places and lovely garden views. Breakfast and dinner were delicious and included the first strawberries of the season from the garden. Gilberthe is charming and looked after us very well. Highly recommended.
