Small house from 1920, modernized with attention to detail in 2016-17: New kitchen, bathroom, windows, electrical, etc. Large terrace. Boat.

Superbly located on the west side of Gimsøya. Excellent location for exploring Lofoten, all year: Hiking, skiing, cycling, golfing, midnight sun and northern lights.

Henningsvær: 30min, Svolvær (airport): 40min, Evenes (airport): 3h, Moskenes (ferry): 2h.

Grocery store, café and gas station: 7km. White beach, 18-hole golf course and horse farm: 2km.

The space

The first houses in Lofoten were built in the best locations. This is one of them! The house is very cosy, and the view is fantastic. Gimsøya is an unspoilt and quiet island, and excellent base for exploring Lofoten, both in summer and winter.

The Hov area on Gimsøya is probably Lofoten's best place for watching both the midnight sun and the northern lights. Hov also has a long, white beach, an 18-hole golf course, a horse farm, and a small grocery store with café and gas station.

Larger towns like Henningsvær and Svolvær are just a short drive away, and the house is "centrally" located excursions to Lofoten's best mountains and beaches, both further out towards Å, and further in past Svolvær.

Although the house is quite small, there are many rooms and beds. Three double beds and two single beds sleep eight comfortably, and there are two additional beds (alcove and in the living room) if required. Back in the days, two families (14 people) lived in the house.

The house has completely modernized in 2016-17 (almost rebuilt) with great attention to detail: All windows have been replaced, all outer walls have been isolated for warmth, new outside wood panels, new kitchen, new bathroom, the entire electrical system is replaced, all water pipes, new fireplace, new water filter and UV filter, all walls have been painted, etc.

Some minor work still remains, but the house is now pretty much finished. Please contact us for availability or if you have any questions.

Guest access

Electronic door lock with personal code and wireless openers.

Good 4G reception, and a 4G router that creates a normal WiFi network (free use, but please avoid data-heavy use). Connection speeds are normally around 25/7 Mbit.

Our 14,5" open boat with 9.9hp outboard engine is available. It is in Hovsund Marina, 2km from the house. Life vests, fishing equipment, map plotter (GPS), etc is in the house.

We also have two kayaks, with life wests, splash guard, ores, etc. They are stored under the terrace, 80m from the sea.

There are four bikes in the basement, so you can ride to the grocery store for some home-made cake or ice-cream, or to the golf course, horse farm or beach.

Bathroom and kitchen new in 2016, with new dishwasher, washing machine, toilet, shower, etc. Although the house is old, everything has been upgraded and works as it should in 2016.

Interaction with guests

We live in Oslo, 1400 km away, but we will do our best to help at any time - just call or text us. We know the area well, and have local friends who can help if needed.

Other things to note

The nearest grocery store, gas station and café is Gimsøy Landhandel Lofoten, 7km away (find it on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)). Try calling them (it's run by Bodil and Roy) if you arrive outside of normal hours, they might be able to help.
