The space

Located just across the upper Hudson from the Hamlet of North Creek, our mountain home sits overlooking the bridge where, on his way to the North Creek train station from a camp near Mount Marcy, Theodore Roosevelt was met with a telegram informing him that he would succeed William McKinley as President of the United States after his assassination.

Fortunately, just across this bridge sits down town North Creek and approximately one mile away are the Gore Mountain ski bowl and Adirondack Railway station. The Saratoga North Creek Railroad trains run multiple times daily to Saratoga Springs, and our home is just 3 miles from the Gore Mountain base lodge.

Just a few of the great places right over the river on main street are the North Creek Depot Museum, Cafe Sarah, barVino, Barkeater Chocolates, Trapper's Tavern, Lorenzo's Italian Restaurant, the Barking Spider bar, shopping at the Hudson River Trading Company and Foothills gift shop, and Pete's Aah's for dine-in or take-out pizza!

The Adirondacks boast ones of the longest fall foliage seasons in the country. Watch as rich autumn colors travel from valley to mountain peak. Experience the subtle shift of air as summer bursts into a colorful array of reds, purples and yellows – and watch as the seasons change before your eyes. As August wanes across the six-million-acre park, the leaves begin to change, eventually bursting into full color beginning in the Adirondack Mountains in early September. The best time to see fall foliage in the Adirondacks is September - October.

Throughout the fall season there are historical evenings with Teddy Roosevelt in North Creek, Jazz weekends in Lake George, foliage festivals, Lake George Restaurant week, the Adirondack hot air balloon festival, and September brings the Gore Mountain Leaf Cruncher Run, a 5k trail run through the trails surrounding the base area of Gore. Be sure not to miss the Annual Gore Mountain Harvest Festival in October on Columbus Day weekend for a HUGE ski sale, rock climbing wall, bungy jumping, live entertainment, scenic gondola rides, and general merrymaking! Local vendors sell Adirondack furniture and art work.

Have our entire home to yourself with three bedrooms upstairs: one master with a queen size bed, one guest with a queen size bed, and one guest with two twin beds & a full bed. In the living room there are two couches, one of which pulls out into a full bed. There are two full bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. The entry/mudroom has a washer and dryer, boot and glove dryers, and large cubbies for skis and hiking equipment.

There are hardwood floors throughout the home, a wood stove as well as oil furnace, a 60 inch movie projector screen with 7.1 surround sound. Granite countertops, stainless appliances, dishwasher, tall dining table great for entertaining, outdoor fireplace, gas grill on the deck, and tons of parking. You don't have to tell your in-laws but you can read their emails while hiding away at our mountain retreat because there is high speed internet at the house.

In the winter the ski lifts turn 7 days a week, but there are also miles upon miles of trails for snowshoeing and snowmobiling, as well as ice skating and tubing at the North Creek Ski Bowl.

Some of our favorite things to do and places to go during the warmer months are white water rafting on the Hudson River; The Adirondack Museum; mountain lakes like Blue Mountain Lake, Raquette Lake, Minerva Lake, or Thirteenth Lake; hiking up Crane or Prospect Mountain (or any other!); hiring a guide to take you for a hike or a special local fishing spot; kayaking; golfing; driving to Lake Placid or Fort Ticonderoga; dining & shopping in North Creek; having a camp fire; swimming in Lake Abanakee; playing tennis on the open air courts at the North Creek Ski Bowl; or exploring some of the surrounding small towns.

Our home is 3 hours 50 minutes from New York City,
3 hours 57 minutes from Boston,
2 hours 35 minutes from Montreal,
1 hour 27 minutes from Lake Placid,
30 minutes from Lake George.

If you are not familiar with Gore, Karl's dad would be more than happy to show you around the mountain, glades, back country trails, and other winter hikes.

Check in is anytime after 3PM

Guests making a reservation must be over 21 yrs. The general rule is to leave the house as you found it. The cleaning fee covers us doing laundry (sheets, towels), sanitizing bathrooms, putting away clean dishes from dishwasher. It does not cover cleaning up after people. If you break something, fix or replace it, or let me know.

Please be respectful of the space and refrain from smoking in the house.

Take your shoes off in the mudroom and leave everything that was there when you arrived and we'll be all good! Bring slippers if you have them. Strip the beds used and leave sheets and towels in the laundry room on your way out. Have fun and enjoy your stay in the great Adirondacks!

Check-in and check-out is flexible if there is no one else before or after.

We do have a wood burning stove, but please if you use the wood stove and empty the coals, dispose of them in the outdoor fire place; do not leave them in the bucket or any other container in or near the house as they will stay very hot for a long time.

I will email you most current house details and links to area attractions before your stay.

Our family had a great time at this location! The house was spacious, comfy, and had a great, cozy cabin feel. There is a cute little town within walking distance and lots of beautiful areas to explore. I wish we could have stayed for longer!

This is a beautiful home with all the amenities you could need, located within a 10 minute walk to downtown North Creek and quaint cafes, restaurants and shops. The house is beautifully decorated with fun Adirondack touches. The communal areas are comfortable and there's a lovely wood stove to lounge in front of. Plenty of wood was available for both indoor and outdoor fires. The online description and photos are completely accurate. Karl was easy to communicate with and very responsive prior to our arrival. Check in and check out couldn't have been easier. We will definitely back!

The house and the location are terrific. Having a good washer/dryer in the mudroom was key as we had 4 hikers in the group who were returning each night thoroughly dirty-- so they could take off boots and clothes and go directly to the showers. The kitchen was well-stocked, the beds comfortable with nice sheets and comforters. There were 5 of us but the dining/kitchen table easily seats 8. Best part of the house was the wood stove, which came in handy over the chilly evenings. The small town of North Creek is really charming, especially the bakery and Izzy's which serves great prepared foods and has specialty grocery items. The grocery store in town, Tops, was well stocked.

We had a great stay at the Gerner cabin in late August. They were very accommodating with an easy check in and check out. Great location, about 25 minutes to Lake George. Would definitely stay again!

Quiet location close to the shops and restaurants in town. First rate accommodations and friendly host. Check-in was a bit of hassle due to a broken lockbox but the host was very responsive and quickly found a solution. Highly recommended as a good base for exploring the region's natural beauty and historical sites.

I don’t believe in charity. I believe in solidarity. Charity is vertical, so it’s humiliating. It goes from the top to the bottom. Solidarity is horizontal. It respects the other and learns from the other. I have a lot to learn from other people.
