1200s.f. Light filled, airy 2 bedroom apartment with 10' ceilings, tall windows, + the bonus is a cozy furnished porch & courtyard treated for mosquitos. Master has a four poster queen bed, second bedroom has 2 antique brass twin beds+comfy twin air mattress. Fully equipped kitchen with granite countertops, and plenty of dishes. Classic Charleston bathroom: reglazed antique porcelain sink, & iron claw foot tub with shower head. The living room has a fabulous pink Milo Baughman sectional sofa.

The space

1200 sf. This is a fabulous 1880 home with great architectural details like 10 foot ceilings, pretty woodwork, a porch which is essential to Southern living, lots of windows, and light. Original hardwood floors, granite countertops, eat in kitchen, pretty non working fireplaces, fun art, comfortable beds, soft bedding and linens, nice towels, toiletries-down to cotton balls, q tips, and makeup removal wipes, plus a stocked kitchen.

You enter the apartment through the gated fence to the right of the front door. Proceed through the courtyard to the porch where there are 4 red french bistro chairs and a table, as well as a larger square bamboo table with two canvas directors chairs. The apartment opens to the kitchen/dining area with a fireplace, dw, plenty of cabinets stocked with glasses, enough cookware and utensils to actually prepare meals, granite countertops, and a round table with four chairs. Other chairs may be brought in from outside if needed.
The smaller bedroom with two twin beds is at the back of the house to the right of the kitchen. The living room is centrally located and has a pink chenille Milo Baughman sectional, original artwork, Comcast cable tv, wifi. The living room doors open to the porch with shutters that may be closed outside for privacy, and to keep the space cooler in the warmer months.

The bathroom is off of the living room. It has a newly glazed original sink with new handles, a new Toto Soft close toilet seat, and a clawfoot tub with a handheld shower head that locks in place. There is a stackable washer and dryer in the bathroom, detergent pods, and fabric softener are provided.

The living area leads to the large master bedroom which is located at the front of the house. It has a four poster bed with plenty of pillows, a custom upholstered Florence Knoll bench at the foot of the bed, a non working fireplace, and plenty of light. There are lined linen curtains in this bedroom. The room has a vertical fan to keep air moving, an antique brass garment rack to hang clothes.
Each bedroom has a zen chromotherapy sound machine to help you sleep more soundly at night.

Guest access

Everything- once you enter the gated courtyard and porch, the whole space is yours.

Polly's Historic Digs: walkable is upstairs with its own private entrance through the front door. This is the downstairs apartment thus is gets the courtyard, porch, and full downstairs living space.

Of course, I am always available to help guests if there are any questions.

Other things to note

The driveway is shared with the upstairs apartment. I recommend parking in a garage then using Uber and Lyft, or biking and walking around for convenience. Charleston is a small city, and parking can become annoying.

While making repairs this summer I discovered that this historic house had no insulation. To resolve the noise issue, the whole house was completely insulated with noise deafening results in August 2017. I also have sound machines with chromotherapy in each bedroom to help guests get a better nights sleep. The bathroom sink and fixtures have been updated this summer. There are new handles on the bathroom sink, a soft close Toto toilet seat was installed, and the sink was reglazed.

Polly is such a responsive, helpful host. Her place is very cute, clean, and well decorated. It was well stocked with extra amenities that we all appreciated like shampoo/conditioner/soap, fans for each room on top of central A/C, plenty of extra linens/towels, and fully stocked kitchen necessities. The house is on a busier intersection, so I wish there were better window treatments for privacy, and the house doesn't have great lighting so it can be a bit dark. Even so, the house is located close to lots of walkable restaurants/bars, and I highly recommend staying here if you're visiting Charleton!

Polly is a great host. She communicated with me multiple times before my trip to share recommendations and tips for Charleston. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the bright, colorful decor, and the spacious rooms. It's exactly what I'd like to think my Charleston apartment would look like if I lived there, and actually got around to decorating it. The location is 10-15 min walk to King Street and 2-3 blocks to Xiao Bao Biscuit and Hominy Grill - both a must try! I hadn't explored this neighborhood on other Charleston trips, but was happy to find little treasures like Five Loaves Cafe, Mac & Murphy, and Cannon Green. We will definitely try to visit again soon!

Thank you! Since your departure, insulation has been added to the entire house. While doing repairs we discovered that this house lacked insulation from it's 1880's construction. The blinds have been replaced. I also added noise machines with chromatherapy to help with the ambience for sleep. The city was very loud, and ex My neighbors are renovating, and gutting their homes. It's a time of progress on my block. Your visit during a holiday weekend was a peak weekend for noise, and lots of traffic in the city.

Great place with enough space for 4 adults. Located quietly just north of upper king street and easily accessible to some favorite local spots downtown. Polly is an excellent host and went out of her way to ensure that we were comfortable and provided us with excellent recommendations for our trip!! Don't hesitate to rent with Polly!

The intention of of my house is not to stuff it with beds and furniture. My ideal is to provide guests with clean, airy living environments while in town. If friends and family want to travel together while preserving privacy, there is another great apartment downstairs.
