I only stayed one night here but it was great - I wish I could have stayed longer. Highly recommend property if you don't mind some steep stairs and a shared bathroom/kitchen. Very close to Nara Park which is great. Only 20-minute walk from JR Nara station (or 10-minute bus ride). Noriaki was a kind and communicative host, even offering to pick me up from the train station. He showed me around and provided recommendations for the area. The house is beautiful - an old guesthouse with traditional tatami mats and futon. I loved my short visit here.

Noriaki is a great host, very friendly and helpful! My friend had birthday on the day we arrived and he made a lovely birthday decoration for her! Also he brought us to a beautiful secret spot, where we could see the whole city at night-time, it was amazing. The house itself is for people, who want to try out a traditional japanese tatami house. It is simple but lovely, in the winter time could be a bit could, so prepare yourself with warm clothes, but it is a very interesting experience. Thanks a lot Noriaki!

generally, the house is adorable for young people. But for family, it may not be comfortable. it's a little bit far away from train station, 30 mins walk maybe.

We thought it will be a nice and diferent experience staying in a tatami house but the space was a major trouble, the stairs and the wall to the bedroom was extremely stretch, the ceilings were kind of small and the noise was the worst part, you could hear everything and everybody who was in the house. Unfortunately we didn't enjoy this stay and I wounderstand not recommended it specially if you are travelling with family.

BACKGROUND: My fiancé and I were traveling in Japan for about 2 weeks, and this stay was toward the end of our trip. We stayed 2 nights. AIRBNB: Our private room was in a guesthouse that we were told is 200 years old. It really is old, which makes it atmospheric and interesting, but there are some downsides, like a very small toilet room (I'm 5'4" and my knees touched the wall facing the toilet seat because space is so tight). This place is also more than 20 minutes walking from the train which is a lot with luggage. However it's right next to Nara Park. Our tatami room was cozy, and futons and blankets were very comfortable. Otherwise, it was cold in the house, and the heating in our room didn't work well. There's a kitchen but no stove and no knives. The bathroom is shared, so there's a bit of waiting involved when there are other guests. HOST: Noriaki runs four Airbnbs, this is one of them - he does not live there but was responsive via message and drove to the house when necessary (e.g. when we were locked out by other guests at some point. Make sure to inquire about how locking the house up works). We asked him to drive us to the station and he very kindly agreed to help us. He also took the time to hang out with us when we were eating dinner in the kitchen, and he's a very funny, enthusiastic guy. FOOD: We bought dinner at a supermarket which had a lot of options, including decent sashimi, and ate it at our place. We went to a place in the basement next to a McDonald's which looked cool inside (red rooms) but the food wasn't good. We also had lunch at the Nara National Museum cafe which was overpriced but convenient. ACTIVITIES: Todaiji Temple is a must. We went in the afternoon and got to see the sun set further up the hill, and there were some pretty lanterns lighting a different temple. I think we spent a lot of time photographing deer because they are everywhere and come up to crowds of people for food. We also highly recommend the Buddhist Sculpture Hall at the Nara National Museum.
