Peku Peku is located at Michamvi Kae, Zanzibar. This beach banda has a comfortable bed and mosquito net. From the balcony you can enjoy the garden and the sea breeze. The bathroom has a small sink, shower and toilet. The banda is located in a large garden with all kinds of local trees and plants. You can sit on the balcony and meet the bush babies. It is just a 5 minute walk from the beach. You make use of the comfortable bed, the clean shower and toilet.

The space

Peku Peku has a bedroom with a double bed with fresh linnens and a mosquito net. You have your own bathroom with a sink, shower and toilet. The water we use at the house comes from the well on our land.

We clean the banda after guests leave and make sure it is spotless before the next guest arrive.

There is a nice balcony at the front of the banda where you can relax, enjoy the sea breeze and our garden.

The beach and Indian Ocean are just 3 minutes away and some have described it as paradise.

Guest access

You have full access to the banda and the garden and all the facilities. If you come with your own (rental) car you can park in on the grounds inside the gate.

Interaction with guests

I, Andrew, am at Peku Peku myself and therefore I am there to welcome you when you arrive. And then it is up to you. If you want to, I can help you with whatever, arrange things for you or are always in for a chat. But if you just want to be on your own without interference from me, if all you want is privacy, no problem at all! Just let me know.

Other things to note

Michamvi Kae is quite remote. Paje beach is 20 minutes away but there is transport available. There are several local business and a local shop. There is no ATM in our corner of the world. So make sure you bring enough cash with you or keep in mind you might need to visit Stonetown where the nearest ATM is. Usually people accept Tanzanian Shilling, US dollars (only if they are printed after 2006) and Euro.

Andrew was a very friendly host and we felt comfortable since the beginning. Unfortunately there were only three bungalows on a big space, so it looks a little bit lost. We hope there are coming some more bungalows. The one we've slept was very nice but really small.

Andrew's place in Michamvi was exactly what I was hoping for when arranging my Zanzibar trip, and really lived up to its airbnb billing. Peku Peku is a really peaceful and relaxing place that is 5 mins from an amazing beach. Surrounded by native trees with monkeys and bush babies for company, you really do feel like you're in your own private piece of the island. I won't hesitate to stay at Peku Peku again and I really look forward to seeing Andrew's plans come to fruition in the future.

We absolutely loved our stay at Peku Peku. It was secluded, but a close enough walk to the beach and restaurants/bars. Hope to go back in a few years and see this beautiful place again! Thanks Andrew for everything

If you're looking for the last true escape from other Zanzibar tourists, this is the place for you. Opposite side of the island and easy to get to. Very safe, beautiful location, and clean lodging. Andrew is a great host! Will definitely be back.

After spending the week before climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, I was looking for a quiet, inexpensive place where I could relax in the days after - Peku Peku ticked all the boxes and more! Having booked the morning I was scheduled to climb Kili, I needed quick communication and Andrew delivered with everything sorted in a matter of hours. When I arrived, Andrew was extremely friendly and helpful (like the rest of the locals in Michamvi) suggesting possible activities he could help to arrange. He continued in the same vain throughout my stay, being there whenever he was needed without being intrusive. The location is perfect - just a few minutes walk from the beach and the village. Peku Peku is obviously a labour of love, evident in every detail; simple but beautiful with just the bare essentials, the hut itself and all the decorations were handmade by Andrew. I hope to return one day to see how Andrew's big plans for the place have materialised and if he can manage to make Peku Peku more special than it already is.
