Located in Playa Grande, Cahuita; 2 1/2 kilometers from Cahuita Town and Cahuita National Park and a 3 minute walk to the beach. Experience the allure of the jungle, lull yourself to sleep with the sounds of the ocean and wake up to monkeys and exotic birds.

The space

The cabina has two matrimonial beds, kitchenette, private bathroom and living area. There are ceiling fans, one inside the cabina and one on the porch. Enjoy the cool breeze while you relax in the hammock or rock in the rocking chair. Kitchenette includes two burner stove top, Tico coffee "sock", mini fridge and plates, cups, utensils, pot and pan, plus bottled water. There are two restaurants within walking distance (one during low season) and a small family-owned grocery store. The Reggae Bar on Black Beach is just a kilometer down the beach road. Wifi is available in your cabina, most of the time. It tends to stream faster in the morning and evening. We asked the techs why we get a stronger signal at certain times of the day and they smiled and said, "well you do live in the jungle"...enough said.

Guest access

Each cabin has a "pila" where you can wash out your beach clothes and hang them up in the back yard. Enjoy the jungle paths in and around our property; check out our fruit trees, indigenous plants, and gardens. Watch the monkeys hang out in the yard, spot sloths lazily hanging in the trees, or listen to exotic birds! It is a three minute walk down the path to the beach, a 5-10 minute walk to the Tree of Life Animal Rescue Center, and a 15-20 minute bike ride to Cahuita.

Interaction with guests

We have bikes for our guests who want to explore the area in the typical mode of transportation for Ticos. We are also happy to pick you up at the bus stop, and give you a ride somewhere if you need one. If you are looking for things to do, ask us! We have some favorite spots we will be happy to recommend.

Other things to note

We also live on the 2 acre property. So we are close when you need us! We have one other cabin on the property, Cabina Clarissa. We are in the process of building a hostel in the back of the property. While we are still busy with this project the price on this post reflects a 25% discount off our normal rate.

Dare I write a review about all of the amazing wildlife we saw? We saw sloths, tucans, a monkey, various the cabin is a short walk to an amazing beach. The cabin is clean and comfortable, and Juniee and Cynthia are wonderful people, as well as wonderful hosts. You will love the jungle at your doorstep and the beach just a short walk away. Highly recommend!

Cynthia was wonderful from the time we made the reservation until we had to say good bye. There are not enough words to express our deep thanks and appreciation for all of Cynthia's time and effort. We especially enjoyed the community in which Cynthia lives and how welcome all whom we met made us feel. The pictures do not do our stay justice - we arrived ready for a vacation adventure, and left having found that and a true friend. Thank you Cynthia and Juniee, we will back again (soon we hope!)

Cynthia and Juniee's place is a perfect home base for exploring Cahuita. It was exactly as advertised, and sweet little cabin in the jungle, just a short walk to the beach. The first night there was a huge rain storm, and sleeping with the windows open listening to the rain and the howler monkeys was just perfect. Cynthia and Juniee are great hosts as well, super communicative and helpful, and just overall great people. The only note, and it's listed in the details as well, there IS wi-fi, but it's spotty. So if you're coming here planning to work or use (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) or anything, don't plan on it. But really, you're staying in a cabin in the jungle by the ocean, so who needs wi-fi?!

We absolutely loved our cabina, the location, and Cynthia and Juniee (and Nico) were incredible hosts. If you plan to visit the Cahuita area, you are making a big mistake if you don't stay with them! Everything was as promised, from seeing toucans, howler monkeys, sloths and lizards right from the cabina hammock, to a beautiful black sand beach within easy walking distance. Not far up the road is a wonderful reggae bar with delicious food, good live music, and the most delicious mojito in the world! Cynthia and Juniee could not have been more helpful and gave us many suggestions on neat places to explore. Our travel plans got delayed by hurricane Irma and they let us stay last minute for an additional two nights. The cabina was clean, and had everything we needed to comfortably spend a week down there. The lovely town of Cahuita is a easy bike ride away, there you will find little shops, tons of restaurants and food, and Cahuita National Park which is absolutely gorgeous. We went snorkeling with a guide there and saw 2 giant rays, 2 nurse sharks and tons of beautiful fish. On our hike through the park we were greeted by capuchin monkeys, blue morpho butterflies, iguanas, and another sloth. Cahuita is an excellent place to bring children and the whole family for a carribean vacation, so long as you wear sunscreen and stay with Cynthia and Juniee!

If we could give more the five stars we would do it! We felt in love with this calm place. Its high reccomend for one who looking for quietness and nature. 1. The owners: Very helpfull and smiling persons. They were ready for help us always. They asked us if we feel good in the cabin, if its ok. They gave us advices about night events (even went to dance with us), they gave us bicycles, they ride us to te bus station. Very communicative persons. 2. The cabin: Is very good situated, u feel alone. We was very sorprended about the very good ventilation inside. We use ventilator just 2 times a lil bit. When the weather was hot we felt very good inside of the cabin . 3. Place: Its far from road, noise, other houses, its 5 minutes walking from black beach, there isnt people there. 15 minutes walking from the cabin u will find the best restaurants (Reggae bar and Chaos), the cousine there is awesome. If u would like to go to the center u can take taxi or use the owner´s bicycles. The Cahuita National Park its place "must see", and its almost free entrance!!! There u will find a kilometres of white beach, enormous park with variety of animals and big insects, trees and plants. We saw so many aaaanimals. If u like to walk, go early there. If u like sweets, taste pattys (rolls with pineapple) in the center. Conclusion: We would like to came back to Cahuita, 1 week is less for see everything there and near. Cynthia and Juniee thank u so much, kisses!!!

Cynthia and Juniee were excellent hosts! They are very kind and knowledgeable about the area. The cabin was quaint and a great place to relax. Although there was no air conditioning, there was a fan in the cabin and on the porch. With the shade of the jungle and the fans, we were quite comfortable. It was exciting to see the howler monkeys and watch them moving among the trees. Cynthia gave us excellent recommendations for several small restaurants and a small store within walking distance to the cabin. We ate at the Reggae Bar and enjoyed the view of the beautiful black sand beach as the sun was setting. We would definitely stay with Cynthia and Juniee again in the future!

We first visited Costa Rica in 2005 and fell in love with Cahuita. It is a perfect mix of Latino and Caribbean cultures and the diversity here is wonderful. We purchased our property and moved our family, grandchild in tow, to the jungle in 2015. We love being so close to the oce…
