About this listing
You can't get any closer to the beach than this 3 bed, 2 bath, 2nd floor home. A panoramic view of the entire beach greets you. Lovingly restored red oak floors, knotty pine walls, & open beam ceilings, beautiful tiled bathrooms. Perfect for two families plus kids. Wifi and parking included.
This beautiful beach front cottage was built in 1958 by San Diego firefighter, Bud Eldred, and his wife,Marge, as their dream home. Red oak floors, a vaulted wood ceiling, a brick fireplace, and beautiful tiled bathrooms and kitchen make it a showpiece home. At the time it was built there were no other structures around it. Just the beach and the ocean. People thought Bud had gone a little off his rocker building a house out in middle of the sand. On their days off firefighters would come help Bud with his home in the sand. So the craftsmanship you will see is the work of many hands.
Today there are many amenities nearby including bike rentals, a lovely park, shops and restaurants within walking distance. But the one thing you will enjoy most is the magnificent view. All the way from La Jolla to the Ocean Beach pier. Which, by the way, wasn't there either in 1958.
For the first time this home is being offered for you to enjoy. Your hostess, Kathleen, grew up in this home and she lovingly restored it, adding modern features such as smart t.v.'s, Internet, a modern gas range and oven, a washer and dryer, soundproof windows, and fun furniture. You and your family will make memories for years to come enjoying the fun and sun, and experiencing a bit of Ocean Beach history.
There is a drive way in which you and your guests may park. It holds 4 to 5 cars. The patio has a gazebo with comfy chairs and a BBQ. There is a hose to wash off the sand before coming into house.
Interaction with guests
I try to meet and greet my guests in person, but if I am not available our longtime residents Danny and his wife, Moon, will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Feel free to ask them where's the best place to eat and how to get around.
Other things to note
There is Internet access and wifi with 3 T.V.'s. I have made my childhood bedroom kid friendly with bunk beds, a futon and fold out beds. The beach and park area are right in front, please be aware that drinking alcohol and or smoking are not allowed in those areas. Two lifeguard towers are out front. The main station is down by the pier.
I want you to have a good time but this is not a frat house. No keg parties or events. There are long term residents on property and they have to get up and go to work in the morning. So please quiet time 11 p.m. To 8 a.m. If you are playing music so loud that it can be heard outside then it is too loud. Be respectful and clean up after yourself. Wash your feet off before you come into the house. Don't sit on the furniture with a wet bathing suit. Put a towel under you. Do not take bath towels outside, there are extra beach towels if you need one. Do not climb, play or sit on the surfboards. Do not bring animals of any kind into the house. Do not flush items such as paper towels, sanitary napkins, diapers, etc down the toilet.
Do let us know immediately if you need anything or are having any kind of problem. We will do everything in our power to help.
We want you to have a wonderful time in this amazing home,

I was born and raised in Ocean Beach. I lived at Spray Street until I was married. Both my husband and I went to Point Loma High School which is just over the hill from this property. We want to share this beautiful place with you and hope that you will treat it as you would your own home. We consider it our home and hope to retire there someday. In the meantime please enjoy the magic of Ocean Beach.
