Welcome to our home! This house is a mix of two long time roommates and other airbnb listings. Staying with us is a mix of visiting with locals and meeting travelers. This room is a good budget option for those wanting to stay in a walkable area.
Hello! Our house is a couple blocks off broadway in the northern section of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. The room is one of five bedrooms in our house. You will be staying with roommates as well as other airbnb guests. We have a cozy kitchen, bathroom and living room with lots of light! You can do laundry downstairs ($1 wash / $1 dry), and hang out in our lovely living room.
Our house is the tall, dark and handsome type, height / weight proportionate, with a red brick exterior (if you're into that sort of thing). Good to know we are an older home, not a hotel so the aesthetics come with the territory. We're two blocks from Broadway, with a stupid amount of cool shit and buses within walking distance. You can get to the Pike/Pine nightlife in a short 10-minute walk.
Broadway has transformed from its grungy gutter-punk needles-and-heroin 90s roots. Maklemore filmed a music video here last night. Sir Mix-A-Lot wrote "My Posse's on Broadway" about it. Pearl Jam came up with their name at B&O Espresso just down the block (RIP B&O – now moved to Ballard).
We also live right by the library, and we've even been there a few times.
The room is best suited for 1 person. As we have multiple listings in this house as well as roommates and one bathroom we limit the overall number of guests in the house to 5 at one time. Due to this, this room is able to accommodate one person.
Be aware that our house is older, and feels very lived-in. The paint and furniture have blemishes, our carpets have stains that won't quit and our tile floor looks like it needs a mopping even after a vigorous cleaning. We deep clean the house a couple times a week and do daily light cleaning. While our house shows it age, it will always be cleaned up and ready for guests! We appreciate our house for the location and the people.
Our neighborhood can be challenging to park in and only street parking is available.
You'll be staying with three of us and a few other airbnb guests:
Leah, 33: Leah has lived in the house for 4 years. Leah is a Midwest transplant who grew up in Michigan and spent a few years in Chicago before relocating to Seattle. Living with Leah is like summer camp. Her favorite moments in life are (1) when the power goes out (camping time!), (2) summer barbecues, and (3) when everyone wants to have a dance party. She's really good at people. Leah has several part time jobs that range from working as an ABA therapy assistant (therapy for youth with Autism), staff in a young adult shelter, Residential Advisor for High School International students in a dorm setting and driving with Lyft. Leah likes to keep busy and is often out of the house. You are most likely to see her around if you are at the house during late morning/early afternoon or get a ride from her! Guests can contact her directly via text to schedule rides depending on her availability.
Andrew, 31: Andrew is new to the apartment as of Jan 2017. Andrew hails from Florida and has previously worked with homeless youth and young adults in Seattle area. Andrew works with International students in a dorm setting in the neighborhood. He also drives with Lyft and is aiming to head back to school to study nursing in spring 2017. He has a place in his heart for a well crafted computer game (including story line, coding and graphics) and has a series of mods for his favorite games he has created. Andrew also likes to lift weights to stay fit and gets really pumped when he gets new personal best when doing squats.
Mike, 35: Mike has lived in the house for 10 years! A cali native and Berkeley Co-op resident 10 years ago, he is now a scientist and businessman in human-computer systems. He enjoys having long intellectual discussions about changing the world and happiness and all that meaningful stuff. When he's not doing that, however, he's fun and playful and borderline stupid, like a puppy. All the musical instruments in the living room are Mike’s. Mike has a sweet motorcycle and motor scooter. Mike travels often for any of the 4 businesses he is running! When he is around he loves to meet and chat with guests!
We open up this space for special occasions, like when a roommate has gone out of town, or we're just in the mood for some fun out-of-town company. So take advantage when it's here!
House check in times are flexible while room Check in/out times are firm. Room Check in is 3pm and Room check out is noon. We do have the capacity for guests to arrive before 3pm and store items in our living room before their room is ready and/or store items after check out in the living room till final departure. This can be arranged during booking.
Interaction with guests
Mostly text and phone. Leah, who communicates with all guests works multiple part time jobs but is available to respond to questions via text/phone within 30 mins.
Good to know we don't meet our guests in person upon arrival most of the time. We aim to provide a flexible check in process so we have it set up to be done all on your own without us present. We love to hear from guests via text/airbnb message once they arrive if all is well or if any questions come up! We are available via text/airbnb message for any troubleshooting, questions that come up!
In the room a welcome binder is provided with the house manual (available via email and on airbnb after finalizing booking), information on essentials in the area, and roommate recommendations of what to check out in the area.
Other things to note
The room has a key lock on the bedroom door. While we strive to have a trusting environment where people and things are safe without locking up items, we recognize that travelers may feel more comfortable being able to lock their items while out of the room.
Follow the golden rule: treat others (and our house) like you would like to be treated!
Please note that we are a home rather than hotel! We offer our rooms on airbnb because of our great experiences with guests being respectful, warm, communicative and safe in our home! Please contribute to this legacy by being respectful, welcoming, warm and safe while staying with us!

We are a roommate duo (Leah and Mike!) who have lived together for a number of years! We make music, do science, design the internet, social work, and drink cheap beer.
