Staying at Hue's house means getting to live in a real Vietnamese neighbourhood. You will hear roosters crowing, smell dinners cooking, hear kids playing, watch people go about their daily business. It is an immersive experience and one you will get the most out of if you are a morning person and you are happy to move outside your comfort zone.
An Bang Beach is walking distance or a two minute bike ride (Hue supplies bikes) and has AMAZING hand made pizza and pasta at Luna's if you're craving some western food. Even closer though, is An Bang 2 Beach which is about 100 metres away and so quiet and peaceful.
Hoi An is a 10-15min taxi ride away and Phuoc (Hue's beautiful reception) will take care of all taxi and private car bookings for you.
This was our second visit to Hoi An so we were happy to be out of the town centre for this trip but if it's your first visit and you want the constant noise and buzz of the tourist strip you'll be happier staying in town.
I recommend staying in Hue's house instead though as you get the best of both worlds. Spend the morning at the beach relaxing (cafes will hire you a dinner, umbrella and bring you food and drinks for cheap-cheap) and head into Hoi An after lunch for the cafes, shops, tailors and atmosphere.
Hue and her whole team are lovely. They'll make you feel at home. Remember this is some-one's home that you are staying in (even though you have it all to yourselves) and it is not flash like a 5 star hotel, but it is friendly, comforting, extremely clean, and private. The house has lovely high ceilings, huge rooms, very big beds and great showers. The wifi is great and the fans and aircon will keep you cool if you need it. Breakfast is provided (your choice of banana pancakes, pho (noodle soup - the breakfast of 90 million Vietnamese) or eggs on baguette. So nice not to have to cook in the morning!
