I cannot fault the structure of the flat, as described, beautiful balcony with a stunning view in the lovely old part of the city. Now to the negative; the host. I am myself am a host and, although the objective is to make money, I understand that Airbnb are used mainly for people's holidays and I do my utmost to ensure people have a good experience, it is important. I believe the host not to have the same care, it feels like a money making machine from first to last, my examples are as follows...... Two toilet rolls for two people for 7 nights, one bin bag for two people for 7 nights, with no note anywhere of where to dispose of rubbish (only rules left, again no help). One towel each to last a week, disgusting. No toiletries. No dishtowel. Only one wine glass. No brush to clean underfoot. Had to buy bleach for shower curtain on first night, stained with mould all around bottom. Dirty bathroom, had to clean prior to use. Now to the most obvious sign of lack of care, and for me, the reason I am leaving a poor review (don't do this lightly). My mother is 72 and although fit, I requested we leave our bags at the apartment prior to a late night flight. He requests you leave at 11am in the rules as wishes more guests book on same day. (Just to note I leave a day in between guests to ensure they are not rushed out). This request was refused prior to holiday due to the flat needing to be cleaned (I'm sure this could be done around two small suitcases). This apartment was not booked following us until two nights prior to our departure I checked every day. If he had said we shall see - if no one books then yes but if someone books I will have to vacate the flat, that, I would have understood, if still not putting guests first. Had to spend 9 hours filling in time prior to leaving for airport with suitcases when the last day should have been a pleasurable one taking in the city we grew to love. As it is, though this apartment is perfect I would not book again due to the character of the host.

Response from Nicolas:
Dear Emma, I regret that you did not ask for anything and did not contact me during your stay. About toilet paper and other. I would have gladly given it to you as well as any questions you may have. Our goal is not to become rich. Just to repay the credits and pay the very important expenses in France. (Our traveler's home is legal and our maids are declared unlike most Airbnb Hosts such as you) ... This gives them a real job! Regarding your suitcases, they can not stay in the apartments after the housekeeping is done because we had too many problems with the travelers who came to retrieve their bags and reuse the apartment. (Shower, Towel, Kitchen, and Toilets) Also, the apartment must be available for a last minute booking. I apologize again that your experience is not more positive. I will redouble my vigilance so that my travelers are satisfied with a good experience

Nicolas is a great host, we didn't meet him but check in was easy and he responded very quickly to our questions. The kitchen is adequately equipped for everything that you need to cook for yourself, there is even an oven as well as a microwave, stove, fridge and freezer. Little bathroom, but okay for a short stay. Stunning views over the harbour from the balcony, perfect place to have breakfast. Great location for bus and metro, only 5 minutes away, interesting shops and supermarkets and great restaurants close by. Thank you

We had a terrific stay in Marseille and the fabulous views from this apartment justified every one of the steps up from the ground floor. The location is atmospheric, ideal for exploring the city and quieter than we anticipated. We had all the essentials in the pared-down rooms, including a very comfortable bed, copious hot water in the cosy shower and good WiFi. The rental was managed with business-like efficiency and we would happily return here on a future visit.

I really enjoyed my stay in Nicolas's apartment - and it's all about the terrace and the view - which is amazing! Simple but everything you need in terms of furnishings - although maybe an umbrella on the terrace as it's totally in sunlight all day. Nicolas was easy to get hold of and I didn't need to contact him during my stay - but checking in was easy by following instructions. Great neighbourhood and le panier is great for food - and close to the harbour as well. 20mins walk from Saint Charles train station so easily accessible. Great stay - thanks Nicolas!

Our host was very responsive. We didn't meet him personally. The apartment was as described. The terrace had a fantastic view of the basilica of Notre Dame de la Gard. It is close to the waterfront and museums. It would be nicer if the building had an elevator but we understand that this may not be common in this area and not something the host can change. Overall a good value for the cost, and I recommend it for younger guests.
