Our house is located conveniently in the heart of Itaewon, Seoul which borders the northern part of the Hangang River. It is beside Seoul Station, Myeong-dong, and Namsan Mountain. The formation of this exotic and global tourism site is closely associated with modern Korean history.

There are two bunk beds available in each room fitting up to four people (you may rent a room with less than four if you wish). There is shared a living room, two bathrooms with showers, and a beautiful rooftop.

The space

This house is located in The Global Community in Seoul: Global Fashions and Foods

Itaewon is a unique place in Seoul where one can meet people of diverse nationalities and cultures. Seoul designated Itaewon as its first ‘Special Tourism District,’ to highlight it as a destination for internationals to enjoy a diversity of culture, shopping, entertainment experiences, and partying.

In the aftermath of the Korean War, American soldiers began to stay in this area and, consequently, numerous businesses and housing complexes were formed here. In preparation for international meetings, the Seoul Asian and Olympic Games, the government strengthened tourism infrastructures and revitalized commerce, prompting international tourists from other parts of the world to visit Itaewon.

Itaewon typically refers to the street full of stores, restaurants, cafes, bars, and clubs over 1.4 kilometers.

Another one of Itaewon’s many draws is its diverse food culture, which features cuisine from around world. Restaurants right behind Hamilton Hotel form a type of exhibition hall for international foods from Korea, New York, London, India, Thailand, China, Greece, Pakistan, Italy, France, Mexico, Australia, and more. Unique flavors, exotic interiors, and diverse nationalities help to make Itaewon befittingly ‘the global village in Seoul.’

James is a very nice person. He cleaned a room pretty neat before we arrived at the place. One thing I really want to tell you is the view from the rooftop is overwhelming. You can see the whole Seoul city up there!

James is friendly, helpful, and kind. Feels like he's there to support your trip and help you get the best from your stay. A previous review mentioned that it feels campy, and reminiscent of Vietnam. Although, I do agree with the camp-like atmosphere, this promotes a feeling of adventure that directly reflects the daily living quarters of many Korean locals. If you want the real experience, stay here. If you like posh and frilly hotels, you won't be satisfied. A simple 5min (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) search of "Itaewon" lets you know what you're in for, and this place really embraces that atmosphere, while remaining very comfortable at a quiet location.

Maybe we were expecting too much as this place is cheap. The level of facilities is more like what we have experienced in Vietnam and we were expecting more from a stay in Seoul. The bathrooms are toilet/bathroom type, where the toilet is basically standing in the shower cabin. There are 5 rooms with 4 beds sharing two toilet/bathrooms so it can get busy. Neither of the bathrooms have a sink which makes is inconvenient. At least the room where we were staying did not have a proper lock. Instead you had to put a screw through the door to close it. It works, but the screw can get stuck especially when unlocking. Again the place is cheap, so do not expect much. It has a campsite vibe about it. The roof terrace is quiet nice place to socialise with other tourists. Regarding the area: do your research before choosing the area where you want to stay. Subway stops working at midnight and taxis tend to take advantage of foreigners. Itaewon is not a particularly pretty neighbourhood, but it is really buzzing at night with clubs even if a lot of them are focused more towards LGBT.

We spent 2 nights at James's place. The accommodation is very well located, very close to nightlife & public transport as well as very quiet. The room is very simple, not much comfort, but enough for a couple of days. James is really friendly and ready to help, we really appreciated it!
