The house is superbly located right on the sea front with great views and a spacious sea facing garden. The village amenities and harbour are all a few minutes walk. The house is recently refurbished and is very comfortable for couples and families (with kids).

The space

The Location is amazing with the shore just beyond the garden. The dolphins pass frequently if you keep a look out. The harbour is a stones throw away, as is the local shop, pubs and a super local restaurant 'The Anchor'. The coastal path is a great way to explore the area and crosses in front of the house.

Guest access

The whole house is yours as well as the converted garage which provides a great comfy spot to watch the waves, read a book or relax and chat, sitting in front of a wood burning stove.

Interaction with guests

I am sorry I will not be available for your stay as I manage the Bothy remotely.

Other things to note

The house refurbishment was designed with my family of 4 in mind. Therefore having 6 adults may feel slightly tight, depending on what you are used too. One may have to be a little careful with the hot water, for example, if all wanting showers at the same time.

Stunning house and amazing location! We saw dolphins twice and then weather was good too. Highly recommend the anchor hotel pub the fish was out of this world. Joanne catered for families too with toys, cutlery high chair etc. The house itself is spacious and facilities fantastic I would highly recommend staying here and if I'm ever in the area again I would stay here again in a heart beat Amazing family memories in Johnshaven and the salmon bothy x

Gorgeous location, loved the garden, very child friendly. Great pub and local shop in walking distance and good base for exploring the area. Amazing beach at St.Cyrus and good farm shops with cafes and play areas less than 20 minute drive away.

We all really loved the house. It is in a superb location with sea views from all rooms. The house was very clean, tidy, nicely furnished and well equipped. The boys loved the garden and we all loved the close proximity to the sea and the coastal walks. Fresh lobster within walking distance was an added bonus.

We were not lucky with the weather unfortunately and so did not have the best stay in a very rainy and wet Johns Haven. We found the bothy a little small for a family of five trapped in by the hail and rain. Had it been brighter no doubt it would have been a better experience. As it was we left 2 days early, partly due to the weather, partly because we were not hugely enjoying living in the bothy. There were a few problems we in terms of intermittent hot water, lights not working, no working batteries to the Tv remote, shower flooding etc. We flagged these up to the host by email on leaving and she was very responsive saying she would get her housekeeper to fix all of the issues (and that she wished we'd have told her earlier so she'd have been able to fix it for our stay). Sadly, we struggled and gave up and abandoned two nights if our holiday, to which our host said she could only apologise... I'm sure the next guest will have a better stay now that the owner knows of the problems, it's just a shame they affected our family holiday and left us feeling like we chose badly this year.

Great location right on the sea front and near the superb Anchor Hotel in beautiful Johnshaven. The house was well-appointed and nicely decorated. A nice big space for two families (with one baby each) to live comfortably for three nights. We would love to return!

The house is well presented and comfortable with views over the North Sea (where we saw porpoises one afternoon). Just round the corner is a good pub and restaurant, and surprisingly well stocked village shop. There are nice beaches nearby and sports facilities at the other end of the village. Lovely spot for a family holiday.

Joanne User ProfileJoanne is a superhost.

I'm a mum of 2, who now lives in Cape Town, South Africa. I am from Scotland originally and love Johnshaven which is near where I grew up. Before Kids my husband and I travelled for years in our beloved Landrover, from NE Brazil to the southern tip of Chile, then up the west coat to Alaska. We also have had several adventures into South East Africa.
