The cottage is a quirky place to relax and unwind. It still has the original oven doors which were used when it was a bakery.
The Old Bakehouse is situated in the beautiful conservation village of Garvald in East Lothian. It offers sanctuary to anyone who wants to “get away from it all”. This cosy cottage has all the comfort that you would expect from a holiday home but is slightly quirky too! The accommodation is reached via the owners courtyard garden.
Set in amazing countryside, with beautiful beaches and popular golf courses close by, The Old Bakehouse would suit golfers, walkers, cyclists or folk who just want to chill for a while.
Golf courses close by include Muirfield, North Berwick, Gullane and Royal Musselburgh.
Accommodation comprises of a living room / kitchen / dining room and wet room, on the ground floor and a sleeping loft upstairs.
This room has underfloor heating, free wi-fi, TV with I-Pod dock, DVD, and a selection of DVD’s to borrow. There is a bed settee for extra guests.
The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric cooker with oven, microwave oven, and fridge with a small freezer compartment. There is a dining table, which seats two. There is also an iron with mini ironing board. The kitchen has under floor heating.
We have taken great care with this room to create a haven of peace and calm. There are two windows, which offer lots of natural light, and the walls have been painted white to maximise the feeling of space and calm. There is a fabulously comfortable king-sized bed.
*Please note that you cannot stand up in this room. The bedroom is accessed by means of a feature “floating staircase”, and because of these two points this accommodation might not be suitable for some people. *
There is a “wet-room” style bathroom with WC, wash hand basin and electric shower.
Guests have sole use of a decked area where they can relax and enjoy being outside.
*There is no public transport. Your own transport is essential.*
We are about 26 miles from Edinburgh and it could take about 35 minutes by car to get there.
There is a good bus service from Haddington, and Park and Ride from Wallyford and Newcraighall.
The nearest train station is in Dunbar, about 10 miles away and there is a taxi service from both Haddington and Dunbar.
There is a pub just a 5 minute walk along the road, where you can get a lovely meal.
*Not open on a Monday and closes at 6pm on a Sunday*.
A welcome basket of bread, butter and jam, and tea, coffee, milk and sugar is provided.

Friendly and Fun!!
As well as running The Old Bakehouse, I am an upholsterer working on private commissions for clients. I am also an upholstery tutor at a local Arts and Craft centre.
In my "youth" I traveled extensively and still like to get away now and again to visit new places and meet new people.
