Interaction with guests

The history of ‘Umacheril’ family dates back to AD 1700 when Kumarakom was ruled by the King of Travancore. The king of Travancore had brought down two Christian families to Kumarakom to do the religious rites for him that is to serve the oil, The Konathattu family; the most ancient Christian family in Kumarakom, was one of them.
Your host Mr. Kosygin Andrews is the best person to speak to about the history of Kumarakom. Being a 4th generation Syrian Christian from Kumarakom, he could guide you through the history the village and that of Syrian Catholics in Kerala. You would be surprised finding some unique Syrian Catholic dishes during your stay with us.

Kosygin was very responsive, kind and engaging. We arrived quite late but he still took the time to make us some food. Very relaxing atmosphere situated in a beautiful area amidst the backwaters.

Kosygin and Mathew made me feel very welcome. Kosygin knows a lot about the area and was free with his time to discuss. The home is a little of the beaten track and if, as I was, you are travelling independently it takes a while to find the house. A few strategic signs would be welcome although most Tuk Tuk drivers knew the address. I ate with Kosygin both nights - a lovely veg korma with chappatis. The room is very atmospheric, but if you are tall (I'm 6') it is very difficult to avoid banging your head. The room is accessed via steep steps and wouldn't suit someone with mobility problems. Fan and air con great. The bathroom is through another room with beds in - I was the only guest there but Kosygin lets out five rooms - I'm not sure how many people would share the bathroom if it was full or whether you would have to go through a room with people sleeping in it. I didn't see the other rooms so don't know whether there are more bathrooms. Outside you are by the canals and it's very peaceful
