The space

If you want to visit the Eternal City and plunge yourself into a typical environment of yore made of tiny cobblestone streets, romantic squares adorned with fontains, churches big and small, centuries old taverns and perhaps even be serenaded to, then Trastevere is the place for you. It is here that the magical essence of our city is still vibrant today.
Our Trastevere Artist holiday home is located in this exclusive area, founded centuries ago along the banks of the Tiber river.

The Home

It was the home and study of an artist and his beloved… a love story between a strikingly beautiful woman from Scandinavia and a Trastevere painter, aka as “The Count” by locals who for years heard him walking through the streets calling out her name. She had left this life too young, and he kept looking for her in the streets of Rome among the people he met and in the portraits and landscapes he painted. His works of art told the tales of his beloved and their love story.
Emidio Antoci loved painting his Trastevere and portraits of people living there as well as others just passing through. His tiny love nest was a castle for him, the “Palace of Dolls”. It was so called for the numerous dolls he had adorned his windows with “to make them shine under the sunlight”, that sun which reminded him of his beloved and reminded him of her colors.

The Count’s home has been completely renovated, the walls still resonate with their not ordinary and romantic love story and the interior is still steeped in the poetry and art the house has lived with for decades – that which many travellers seek in a journey starts here among these walls which still narrate the history of one of the most famous quarters of Rome.

A fantastic apartment in the heart of Trastevere. Lovely neighborhood, very lively and full of picturesque bars and restaurants. The apartment is on the second floor of a charming Trastevere building. It is very spacious, tastefully decorated with everything one needs for a comfortable stay. It has two queen size beds in the loft and a sofa bed on the main floor, which is one of the most comfortable ones I've seen. We were greeted by Paolo, who waited for us in the apartment and patiently answered all the questions we had. Keep up the good work and I look forward to visiting again soon.

This apartment was wonderful! It's centrally located in the the coolest neighborhood. Very charming and artsy decor. Super cozy, and felt like our real home in Rome. Ilaria and her husband were perfect hosts. They provided us with everything we needed including a map, suggestions, and information. We will def want to come back and stay here next time we are back in Roma. Thank you!

Clean flat in a great location in a gorgeous part of the city. The flat was right above a busy restaurant - in the middle of everything, but was relatively quiet considering. Something to keep in mind is that the loft bedrooms get quite hot in summer (it was very hot while we were in Rome!) - but Paulo was great and arranged some extra fans which helped a great deal. It was great for a short stay.

Great location- we walked to easily to major attractions . Apartment was very clean. Host very helpful and very quick to respond to any queries . Bit hot in sleeping areas in mezzanine - host is purchasing extra fan for upstairs - mind you it was 37 outside!!! We didn't mind stairs to apartment at all but maybe not great if you have mobility problems or young children. Apartment best for couples etc. We really enjoyed our stay - fab location !

Absolutely perfect apartment from which to discover Rome. The House with the Dolls (ask the excellent hosts Paolo and Ilaria!) truly gives you the feeling of being at home in Rome and feeling a bit Roman. Trastevere Artist is a lovely apartment, which has all the amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. Excellent bathrooms, a quaint little kitchen (although you probably won’t use it much with so many excellent restaurants nearby!) and everything you need to find peace and quiet from the Roman hustle and bustle. During our stay the average temperature was above 30°C and because teh bedroom areas can get a bit warm we kept the windows closed and the airco on during the day, giving us an excellent refuge on our return after extensively exploring Rome during teh day and reasonably cool bedroom at night. As to the bedrooms I can only remark that it is situated under the roof and high at the head end and low at the foot end. It does not feel small but if you are less mobile it might not be the best for you. If you are however sound of body it should not be an issue. The surrounding area is lively and busy in the evening and idyllic during the day. It is located in the Travestere district close to public transport and so central that most Rome highlights are only walking distance away. On our first evening we walked to the Coliseum to see it, in all its glory at night. You can also take a stroll in the evening alongside the Tiber or just eat and drink at one of the many restaurants and bars around the corner. Paolo was an excellent host and was present when we arrived. He gave us some valuable tips and then left us to discover Rome on our own. When there was a little issue with the WiFi it was quickly resolved. All in all you cannot go wrong with Trastevere Artist. Paolo and Ilaria thank you. You have given us a home away from home and when (not if) we return to Rome there is only one place we would consider!

I am Ilaria, your host, a mother of two kids. My better half is Paolo, with whom I share my life and part of my work. Both of us were born and raised in Rome and we know everything there is to know about the Eternal City. We love genuine home cooking and if you so desire we can suggest THE best spots to enjoy real Roman cuisine, other culinary delights and quality wines. If you have come to Rome to see the sights of Ancient Rome, we could provide you several itineraries according to the time you have at your disposal. Those others, instead, who would like to pursue cultural pastimes - such as concerts, theatre, exhibitions - scheduled during your stay in Rome, are welcome to ask us for suggestions where to go and when. We love our hometown so much that we want you to have a such great experience in our city that you cannot but desire to come back soon to Rome and, of-course, visit us.
