About this listing
Our cosy cottage in the heart of Balmain has 2 bedrooms plus a loft. Found in a quiet street we're located a short 3minutes walk from Darling Street cafes, restaurants, great pubs & shops. Our house has a generous courtyard with BBQ. We are 2 minutes from the 10-15 minute bus to the city. The house is also 200m from public tennis courts (with flood lights).
Our house is unique as it's a turn of the century workers cottage. It's not fancy but it packs a punch, and it has what you need, including a lovely backyard and BBQ. The rooms are tastefully decorated and all make use of the space cleverly. The loft is a nice separate space with a desk and workspace, that easily converts to a third bedroom when needed. The other 2 bedrooms both have built in wardrobes. And there is a separate external laundry. We live happily here and we think you will too.
Guests have access to the whole house, including 2 bedrooms (both with ceiling fans) and the loft space. The loft has a sofa bed that converts to 2 single beds or a king size bed. The house has a washer and a dryer, cable TV, a work space/ desk area, kitchen with all the basics and the backyard. The backyard has a 4 burner gas BBQ that can be used by guests. The house also has a fireplace in the living room. Guests can use the fireplace if they are experienced with using them but we would prefer you make use of the electric heaters in the house if heating is needed.
Interaction with guests
We put the house on Airbnb when we are away so interaction will be limited to either at the start of a booking, on email or via my sister who helps ensure guests have any questions answered.
Other things to note
The house is also 200m from recently refurbished public tennis courts (with flood lights).
We expect the house to be left as found, relatively clean and tidy. Just treat it like your own house, look after it well and have a great time!

Hi, my name is Graeme and I am really excited to be part of Airbnb because, whilst I am from Sydney originally I have also lived in Dublin and New York, and it's from those experiences that I realise how great it is to feel like you have a home-away-from-home. I live in Balmain with my fiancé, Claire, who is originally from Ireland. Until recently Claire lived in Bondi and I lived in Paddington, which are also great parts of Sydney.
I have always had a love of travelling and have been to lots of great parts of Europe, north America and central America. I was lucky enough to go to the football World Cup in South Africa in 2010 and some of the southern African countries whilst indulging in another passion of mine, sport. I have played soccer and cricket all my life and have recently been focusing more on general fitness, including running, and golf. I ran the New York Marathon in November 2014, which was amazing. Possibly the closest you can get to feeling like an Olympian without ever being close to being one. The people of New York come out in force and the feeling of positivity on the streets is incredible.
Other things I love are actually well supported in the Balmain area, being socialising, good food, coffee and a couple of drinks. These abound in Balmain, with its cafes, pubs and restaurants, and being so close to the City makes venturing outside the Balmain peninsula easy as well. Australians love a breakfast, so make the most of the cafes wherever you are staying.
I love the beach and summer in general and the energy of Sydney. Being originally from Sydney I understand how the different parts of the city offer different things. From the beach and the backpackers of Bondi, to the hipster hangouts of Darlinghurst, Surry Hills and Newtown. Balmain is a hidden gem in the inner west with great access to everything, together with its own community.
I hope you have a great time in Sydney and Balmain, and that you feel like a local.
