Nice host with great atmosphere. It was little far from Porto center, I recommend to walk to approach there! Very nice experience in Porto

João is an extremely accommodating host and even served dinner when I arrived. He gave me the larger room with a private bathroom for the first few nights and then moved me seamlessly to the smaller room when a pair of other guests arrived. The location is great if you like walking and want to be a bit outside of the city. There's fantastic food and scenery in Gaia, and it's easy to catch a bus or uber if you don't feel like walking into Porto.

I found Joao's place perfectly situated: easy access to main thoroughfares by moto and walking distance to the non-tourist port, where one can enjoy the local experience. Joao is very helpful, with broad knowledge of where to go/get-things. He made two suggestions (food and motorcycle parts/servicing) and both turned out to be fantastic experiences! The room is spacious and clean, with a very comfortable bed. The onsite parking is easy to access and secure. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

The place is really clean and safe, and reasonably priced. João picked me up from the train station, and called a cab for me when I left. I think I would not make the choice to stay there if I visited Porto again, because it's actually quite far from the city and the area, while it's nice, does not really feel like an old European city. There is a bus connection, but I ended up walking into the city. It may be good if you have a car or you're looking for a quieter environment, but I found myself wanting something a bit more city-ish.

Our stay with João was wonderful! He picked my boyfriend and I up from the Vila Nova de Gaia train station and drove us to his place. He gave us the master bedroom with the en-suite bathroom and he stayed in the room pictured online – we felt spoiled. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious and clean – the only drawback was the wifi signal was weak from our room but he warned us about this and it worked well in the kitchen and common rooms in the house. We were at his house during Portugal Day and he invited us to share a wonderful dinner and lots of wine with him and his family. If you don’t mind walking quite a bit the location is great, we walked into the center of Porto from his place and it took us around an hour. There is also one bus stop a few blocks away that will take you into Porto. Near the bus stop is a giant grocery store in a shopping center with fast food and shops.

I am a teacher of arts on a secondary level who enjoys going for motorcycle rides, walk by the beach, canyoning in the river and prepare good and healthy portuguese meals with good wine (without geting drunk) while talking about culture issues, ... I have two children that are studying in Manchester. The boy (26) studies piano, the girl (21) studies International politics. I am a positive person and I like to meet people.
My goal is that you feel at home and not just a guest.
