My family and I love to welcome people and share our cultural immersion experience here in Valley region, just 25 min east of Oax city. Tlacolula is famously known for its Sunday Market, but there is so much more to do here. Just come our way!

I decided to turn my parent's dream home into a Bed and Breakfast. The stay at the house would be ideal for travelers looking to spend a weekend or more in a relaxing area full of tourists attractions but it's also an ideal location for those seeking an alternative immersion experience. Oaxaca offers various attractions year-round so you are welcome to come anytime.

Las Azucenas B&B is a spanish hacienda style home decorated with local art and bright colors. We have a total of 3 bedrooms with 2 full size beds and one single bed. We can accommodate private rooms or shared rooms depending on the number of people that are staying during your visit. We have one spacious bathroom with running water (hot & cold), a nice shower/bathtub, washer and dryer, fans, and closet space.

This is a wonderful and diverse place which I call home and I would like to share it with the world. I studied abroad all over the world and backpacked while in college using AIRBNB so I know what travelers seek. This location is the best of both worlds: the small town immersion experience and the vibrant City of Oaxaca a short distance away. I have spent all my summers here in Tlacolula since I was a kid so I guarantee you will love your time and experiences here!

At Casa Las Azucenas we offer the comfort of your own home. As our guest you will have access to the entire house: kitchen, dinning room, living room, and patio area. You are free to cook and use the kitchenware. We also have bikes if you're interested in borrowing them.

I am easily available or the house manager to greet guests and to make sure guests are comfortable.

The B&B is nestled in the town Tlacolula de Matamoros, Oaxaca, a 25 minute drive from the City of Oaxaca. We have the MITLA and YAGUL archeological sites 10 minutes away. Hierve el Agua, mineral infused springs an hour away. Ecotourism (bike riding, zip-lining, horseback riding) 40 min away. We are known for our vibrant Sunday outdoor market where local indigenous communities come together to sell their products; it's a sight you cannot miss! You can also explore our church built in 1560, try our famous sorbets, eat at local restaurants and taco stands, and taste the world famous Mezcal. The Patron Saint town celebrations take place in October and then comes the Day of the Dead festivities in November which you are more than welcome to join in.

Getting around is quite easy in Tlaocolula. I live 10 min away (walking )from the center of town or you can take a "moto-taxi" and get to the center of town in 5 min. If you want to visit any of the tourist attractions you can get a private or shared taxi at any time around (15 pesos per person). There is public transportation from the Oaxaca City to Tlacolula via bus or taxi every 10 min. You can also take the bus or taxi from the B&B to any of the sites listed above. I also have a van, and for an extra charge, I would be more than glad to pick you up from the airport/city.

I have started an unofficial local tours that may be of interest. It focuses more on rural attractions while taking a cultural anthropology approach. My cousin and I can take you to different attractions as many or as little as you may like. I have done a lot of research on my ancestors history and my cousin offers a perspective of a native zapotec from the valley region. We give a portion of the cost to everyone we visit, we try to help our community in anyway possible. Inbox me if you're interested!

We stayed at the Casa for 6 days with our family, aged 35 - 93, for Day of the Dead preparation and celebration. Lily was personally responsive and helpful throughout our arrangements, and the experience was unbelievable. Lily's wonderful family opened their home and gave us a warm cultural experience. Ricardo acted as host and tour guide, and provided, hunted or gathered breakfast each day. We went to the market with Abuela Estella (she could run for mayor as everyone in the town knows her, and we might add, makes way for her) to buy supplies for the altar, made mole negro with Estella, Aunt Julia and Cousin Reyna, visited a DOD bread festival in Diaz Ordaz, visited Aunts Lily and Estella at their farm nearby where we had chocolate and pan. Julia hosted us for breakfast and dinner in her home on November 2, and we observed and helped over several days as Estella built the altar. The location in Tlacolula is a convenient launching spot for visits to the area. We conducted these on our own as we had rental cars, but Lily and Ricardo can arrange tours of area highlights like Mitla, Hierva de Agua, bird watching, el Camino de Mezcal distilleries, and just driving in the beautiful mountains. We cannot stress enough how welcoming this family is. They let us take over their home and were very hospitable and kind. they warmly let us share in this most amazing religious and cultural experience. You can shop and cook your own lunches and dinners, or easily procure the luscious food of Oaxaca on jaunts to town, or with visits to the neighborhood taquerias just up the street. there is a convenience store within walking, and a man carries a tray of doughnuts in the morning nearby -- try to find him. The market is extremely good. the town is pleasant and safe. We walked a lot (you have to exercise when you are eating in Oaxaca), always felt safe, saw amazing things both beautiful and bizarre, visited with pleasant dogs, and did some rewarding birding, especially in Lily's courtyard, and the fields and lots nearby. We highly recommend a stay in Yrigoyen, especially if there are children to gain experience with the ways people live and love the same way whether they are in Mexico or another country. Great stay! It is a short walk to the wonderful Sunday market ( a must see ). Located in a beautiful small neighborhood with delicious street food right around the corner. The room was very nice and the kitchen had everything you could ask for. The two grandparents were the sweetest people I've ever met, and let me sample their salsa verde which was a treat. Authentic, clean, and friendly.

All of the nice things that other guests have said about staying at Cas Las Azucenas B&B ring true. I want to emphasize that the room(s) are spacious and the bed is very comfortable. There is a bed room and a another room. Reyna Guadalupe is a great cook. We really enjoyed her breakfasts and my husband really appreciated her explanation of how she prepared black beans. We very much enjoyed chatting with Ricardo because of his patience with our level of Spanish proficiency but also because he is insightful. We even ran into him at Cafe Brujula in Oaxaca de Juarez after our stay and he was as gracious as always with his time and attention. Even though we came in the low season and missed the Sunday market we loved absorbing the feel of this small town in Oaxaca. If you come to Oaxaca de Juarez or the state of Oaxaca, I highly recommend that you come stay in Tlacolula de Matamoros at Casa Las Azucenas whether you travel by bus (You can get the bus from the 2nd class bus station across the street from Abastos Market in Oaxaca de Juarez), which we did, or rent a car so you can explore the valley. Their house is very easy to walk to from the bus station and well located between the valley and the city if you are driving. Lily gives an excellent description of the town so I will leave it to her. Though everyone was friendly, my husband also appreciated that the place was a tranquil spot where we had a lot of nice quiet time on your own. Lily and her family can offer the level of interaction you require. When we come back to Oaxaca, we hope to stay at Casa Las Azucenas again.

My daughter and I stayed in Lily’s wonderful home. We were warmly received by Lily’s cousin Ricardo and his sister Guadalupe. The breakfasts they made were simple and delicious and just right to start our days. Ricardo was available anytime we needed him and only a phone call away for answers to our questions about the property and local things to do. He was gracious in setting up a visit and accompanying us to see Señora Juana's dyeing and weaving craft in her home.

Everything excellent!! =) It is a house as I remember my father's family's house in Oaxaca. Very quiet, near to main road, connection with many touristic places. very friendly and helpful host. Sunday in market is the best option to eat until no more stomach space. Bathroom is out of rest room but it is common in Oaxaca.

Lily's place was wonderful! We stayed here on a Saturday night so that we could wake up and just walk to the Sunday market (best mercado in the area I'd say). The rooms were clean and lovely and the bed was comfortable. In addition to this, everyone that we talked to were so accommodating and sweet. I would definitely stay here again! Tlacolula was a great little town as well!
