Welcome to The Green Dragon Guest House! The view and immediate proximity to Crown State Beach make this space truly special. The large windows adjoining the living room look out at a view that spans the Central Bay Area, from Silicon Valley on up to downtown San Francisco and the Bay Bridge. You are right across the street from a nearly mile long state beach, offering beautiful sunsets. Your beds are also super comfortable, as often reported by other guests who have stayed here. A stay at the Green Dragon Guest House includes breakfast "essentials" such as sourdough bread, organic pasture-raised eggs, coffee (in addition to regular coffee we also have an espresso maker with espresso beans, too... if you are a coffee afficionado) with a wide selection of teas, plus whole milk or cream, jam, and butter, which you cook yourself on your own schedule. NOTE: Though this listing has bed space (including 3 beds and 2 couches) for up to seven, there is only one bathroom (though it has 2 sinks).
Your rooms are tastefully furnished with dressers and closet access. There are two sinks in the bathroom. You have full access to the fully stocked kitchen (other than "breakfast essentials", you provide your own groceries, of course. By stocked I mean pots, pans, dishes, utensils, spices, condiments, oils, etc.), plus the living and dining room spaces that offer a 54" flatscreen with TiVO DVR, HBO and STARZ, leather couch, and dining for up to six around the table. One of the desks in the office space (found past the living room) can also be made available upon request -- especially for business travellers. Check with your host.
There is an MP3 hookup for playing music on the living room stereo, and our wireless internet is, as one guest put it, "insanely fast". Send me a message if you have any other questions.
As a Bay Area resident since I was nine years of age, I know a bit about this place, and as such my online guidebook contains four "tours" of certain key areas of the Bay Area. This assists my tourist guests in getting the maximum enjoyment out of their vacation here without having to figure out the best places to go and see all on their own.
Interaction with guests
Unless we have previously arranged it before you book, I am generally not going to be around during your stay except perhaps when you first arrive and/or immediately before you depart. Generally when The Green Dragon Guest House is booked in its entirety (as it is with this listing), it is because I will be away traveling, or else visiting with family or friends nearby for two or more days.
Guests are welcome to arrive on the first day of their stay anytime after 2:00 pm: both guest rooms and the public spaces of the apartment are made up and ready for you by that time. Usually I am also gone by that time, but I may -- rarely, and as unobtrusively as I can -- remain in my home office (adjacent to the living room) working until 8:00pm on the first day of your stay, especially if I am taking a red eye flight out that evening.
Other things to note
Soap, shampoo and conditioner provided. I keep the apartment clean and neat, and the apartment is thoroughly cleaned professionally once a week.
In addition, I have a near-daily housekeeper who comes in five days a week for about an hour between 11 AM and 2 PM. She is here to tidy things up, freshen the bathroom and other public spaces, put away dishes (please wash your own dishes or use the dishwasher), refill the water fountains and water filter/dispenser, replace anything that is needed, and otherwise make sure the guest house is running smoothly for you. She will make your beds if you so desire, but will not go into the main guest rooms without your express permission (which you can give to me in advance if you would like). This all said: If you would prefer her not coming into the apartment during your stay, this can be arranged, but you must agree to fill the water fountains and water filter/dispenser yourself, at a minimum.
Regardless, if you are staying for seven days or longer: once per week my housekeeper will come for about four to five hours in order to wash linens and laundry and do a thorough cleaning of the apartment. The day this occurs is somewhat flexible, if you have a preference. Thank you.
On the FIRST DAY of your stay, your host may be around and sharing the public spaces of The Green Dragon Guest House with you until as late as 8pm that day. You may check-in as early as 2pm -- at which point you will have 100% use of the guest rooms and will otherwise share the bathroom, kitchen, dining room, living room and hallways of the apartment with your host until his departure. Once your host departs (by no later than 8pm the first day of your stay) the entire Green Dragon Guest House is yours for the remainder of your stay.
Checkout is at 10am on the last day of your stay, in nearly all cases a late checkout of an hour or more is possible, but guests should ask for it well in advance (24 hours or more is both preferred and more likely to be granted).
Let your host know how many keys you want your party to have (up to 3).
Sharing = caring. This is not a hotel, it is The Green Dragon Guest House, and so I ask that you consider your stay as if you are staying as a guest in the home of a kind and caring friend while he is away, one who seeks and expects at least a modicum of care in return from you while you are staying here. Specifically, there are a few minor things I ask all guests to do that are not expected of most hotel guests (see below).
Please take shoes off at the front entry hall, and use the location board and security system found there, as needed. Your host will provide you with a security code, EASY instructions for its use are found just below the security panel in the entry hall of the apartment.
Keep the public areas tidy after use; place used dishes (after thorough scraping or light rinsing) in the dishwasher and run the dishwasher if it is nearly full. Dishwasher soap is found in the narrow cabinet next to the dishwasher.
Please recycle and/or compost when possible, and notify your host if you notice that trash or recycling bins are full.
Please clean up any large messes (say, from cooking a large meal) promptly, and clean up the living room and dining room spaces immediately after use.
Quiet Hours (no loud noise or music) are from 10:00 pm until 6:00 am ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No smoking in the apartment or elsewhere in the building; smoking ok on the path across the street (preferred) or on the sidewalk next to the building.
Sorry, but there is no guest use of the building swimming pool or laundry facilities. However, Full Apartment Use Guests such as yourselves may make use of the office/bedroom workout equipment near the living room (including a Bowflex M3 Elliptical Trainer, Gold's Gym 10-50lb adjustable dumbbells, an amazing adjustable bench, plus a pull-up bar with ab straps) PROVIDED (1) you agree that such use is AT YOUR OWN RISK and (2) that you speak verbally with your host in advance so that he can instruct you in the equipment's use.
Though normally your host is on top of such matters, do let your host know if you notice we are running low on anything such as toilet paper, paper towels, or soap.
EASY REFILLS: Guests are expected to (1) refill the kitchen's water filter/pitcher's water reservoir with each use, so that all guests can continue to enjoy it without interruption (instructions on the pitcher). And, (2) Every 2-3 days the water fountain by the front door evaporates to the point of needing to be refilled. You can tell when it begins to make louder noises. There is a (full) water pitcher located underneath the fountain that you can use to refill it, just pour the water gently onto the rocks until you see the water level emerge from below, then the fountain is full again for another 2-3 days.
You are expected to leave the apartment in a tidy condition when you depart including taking all food you brought along with you. Thank you.
The Green Dragon Guest House does not offer special child-safety features or amenities; all children should be supervised by an adult at all times.
