Special Adalucian summer experience: sleep outside in a double sofa-bed on the terrace, safely under the mosquito netting. You can see the stars and feel the soft breeze.

Rural place between the mountains and the sea.
This piece of paradise has beautiful views and a secluded garden with many tropical fruit trees, a large pool and a huge terrace with a great view.
It takes 15 minutes to reach the beach, 40 to Granada.
Use of kitchen.

The space

This rural retreat is situated away from the busy life, in the middle of a beautiful valley. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature.
The house is a small traditional stone building with a flat roof. It is surrounded by a large ecological garden. From the large terrace you have a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains and orchards.
The swimming pool (7x11 m) with sunbeds around it in a sunny open area, is in the lower part of the garden, where a stone wall gives you privacy and flowering plants and fruit trees surround you. Two shades places with sunbeds and a swinging chair make for a natural shady retreat.

In the garden you will find a lot of different places where you can relax or work, with hammocks, a large table and chairs, lazy sunbeds. The area around pool is full of flowers and herbs. Fruit trees and grapes grow everywhere, and in every time of the year there will be some fresh fruit. The last part of the garden is the huge organic vegetable garden. Here unusual vegetables from all over the world are being grown. This will give you the chance to try out new exotic foods.
There is a parking space at the other side of the house.
The direct area offers great walking possibilities, see the travel guide for more information about the area and things to do.

Guest access

You are welcome to use the open plan kitchen. You can use a private fridge (which is situated outside on the porch).
The pool area and the terraces are available to you.
There is reliable wifi.

Interaction with guests

If you would like me to, I will gladly answer questions, give tips about the local things to do and to see, but if you like your privacy I will of course respect that completely.
As long are you are content, I am happy too.

Other things to note

This is a remote place, so you will need some means of transport, or I can drive you to the busstop or the beach, at additional small cost.
As everywhere in the country, there will be dogs in the area, you will sometimes hear them barking at night. Do bring earplugs if you don 't like that.
The last kilometer of the road is partly unpaved and sometimes rocky. Not suitable for low city cars. It is possible to park near the normal road, but out of sight, near the house of friends, and visible from the terrace. We'll drive up with my car.
The nearest shop is at least 5 km away, so it is advisable to do shopping before arrival.

I will of course help you with your luggage in my car. If you have never driven unpaved mountain roads and you would rather not try to, you can also park before the little road starts, and drive up with me.

The house is simple and rustic, the luxury consists of location, the views, the garden and the large pool, as well as the possibility to sleep outside.

It is possible that the dogs in the area will bark at night, especially when the fox or the wild boar are on the go.

Please, do not take vegetables or fruit out of the garden. Whenever possible, it will be shared with you.

Joanne kindly accepted our booking at very short notice and I'm glad she did! Very unique experience with amazing views and Joanne was a very warm and welcoming host and we really enjoyed her company. Got woken up a few times in the night by Jessie the very sweet friendly dog barking but other than that we loved our stay. Thank you Joanne.

The stay at Joanne's was like a retreatment for body and soul. The beautiful house with it's wonderful terrace, garden and swimmingpool are situated in a valley with stunning sights and about 15 min by car from the beach (Motril / Salobreña). The nights outside on the terrace were relaxing and in some nights you can see loads of stars right above your head! Joanne was a lovely host (more like a friend!) at any time with a beautiful dog and we highöy recommend staying at her's. Thank you!!!

If YOU want to prolong a Spanish siesta for a Dutch WITCH at her retiring age - then BOOK her place!!! Unfortunately I made a reservation of this place for my BIRTHDAY cause I have always dreamed of spending warm nights somewhere in mountains under the falling stars...And I GOT it. Joanne wrote me back in the quickest and most friendly style. I was so HAPPY when I got the confirmation from her, even spent extra commission paying by MasterCard. But I could not imagine what the HELL is it!!! Joanne advised me to rent a car first, because it is really COMPLICATED to reach her place on foot or even by sedan. I rejected - it costed much for me. Then she proposed to pick me up at the bus stop in the nearest village for just 5 euro I agreed. Her frowzy jeep drove us home. I wondered why the hostess looked so SCRUFFY as if she didn't expect any hosts.. I was shown the terrace. It didn't have much in common to that on her profile. Just fold-flat SOFA and a couple of chairs... It must be in a fully stowed position during the day", - she commanded. I asked about the LOCKER for my stuff. "You can place your stuff in a bedroom, there will be no guests, and added, - you can choose - stay in the bedroom or on the terrace". Well, I needed just a SAFE place for my documents and a corner to change my clothes. When I came out of the room where my stuff was Joanne told me to pay for it additional CHARGE. "If not, I will bring you back to the bus stop"- she said with a smile on her face... I have already paid 101$ for sleeping on the TERRACE via Airbnb, so I added the amount of money she asked just to avoid the conflict. What have I done to you, WITCH? ..I am writing down this feedback with tears in my eyes .. So I paid and slept on the terrace with my luggage in the bedroom. Next day I decided to go to Granada and visit Alhambra simply not to see her, because I was deeply disappointed with such a "FRIENDLY" hosting. I returned the day after, she picked me for her 5 euro tax My sofa was WET, maybe after drizzle in the night, moreover the flush in WC didn't WORK! ..I could not wait until the morning comes.. She was sitting outside and talking by a telephone when I asked to drive me back. Joanne was irritated and said that she is not a servant for me and reminded of paying. On our way to the bus stop she began to LEAN AGAINST my feedback on her profile. But if she is a brilliant host, why should I leave a NEGATIVE feedback?? I did not say a rude word to her during my stay! ..But I was STROKED by her hypocrisy. Smiling...

Response from Joanne:
Hi Maryana, I am very sorry to hear you have not been content here. Of course there are always two sides to every story. All I can say is that it might be good to read the advertisement very well before you decide to go somewhere, and if you are not happy, to discus your worries in a polite way. I hope the rest of your trip will be pleasant. Joanne

Joanna is a very generous and helpful host. She organized us a special place to stay even the offer was already booked - we were glad about her improvisation and flexibility:). Her home is a bit out of the busy coast in a natural paradise. Great view over the hills, in the middle of tropical fruit/nuts tree and protected by a lovely dog! During the night we could observe so many stars, it was a very clear night! With the blankets and the moscito net we slept until the smell of fresh bread woke us up! Joanne prepared for us and the orher guests a very tasty breakfast with fruits from her garden! Wonderful stay! Thank you! I can highly recommend her place!

We booked only the day before arriving - Joanne responded quickly and met us upon our arrival the next day. The place is great in a beautiful setting, and Joanne is a very welcoming host and makes a great breakfast. Our night under the stars was peaceful and waking to the sun breaking over the mountains was only improved by Joannes dog Jessie bringing us a ripe avocado from the garden to add to our breakfast.

We had a wonderful stay at Joanne's house in the mountains. She is a lovely and generous host, and there is something magic around this place. We met great other airbnb guests and had nice conversations at the terrace under the moon. We slept outside under the stars while Jesse the dog was watching over us, and got a lovely breakfast with fresh bread and homemade marmelade etc. Joanne is a great person and we are happy that we met her and stayed with her. Would recommend this certainly if you want to get away from all the touristy stuff and be disconnected of all the rush in the world.

My place in Southern Spain is a great opportunity to share with other people. Some come as volunteers through workaway, some come to recover from a burn-out, and some stay as holiday guests.
In Spain I live in the very South, in a remote place in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, in the Netherlands I live in Delft.
Things I like to do are tending my organic garden (with help), sketching, and improving my Spanish. I love both nature and culture and spending time with family and friends.
