We spent 6 excellent days in NYC and Verna's facility and especially her personal care and quality contributed the most to our pleasant stay. I can bravely recommend this opportunity in Brooklyn, well situated 20-30 min to Manhattan. No doubt, next time we will choose her flat definitely!

Verna's hospitality is what an Airbnb experience is all about. It's not just about staying at someone's place like a hotel - it should be about learning the neighborhood, the people, the local businesses and the history. Verna gave my friend and me a peak into "a day in the life" and we loved it. We also loved her place as it has the home's original wood floors, wood accents, mirrors and so much charm. Comfortable beds and fabulous animal print carpets that are a nod to Verna's animal saving passions. All around great experience!

If you want to experience the urban lifestyle of Brooklyn while exploring Manhattan, Verna’s place is a good location. It’s spacious and clean in an up-and-coming urban neighborhood. Verna is a great lady. She goes the extra mile to make your stay great; it’s almost like having your own personal concierge. She gives good restaurant advice and works hard at little things; for instance, she uses a special technique to fluff your towels! Her house is an old brownstone with great character that exudes history from its pores, with intricately carved woodwork that some long-ago craftsman put his heart into. You get the second-floor apartment, which has plenty of space. The extra room came in handy when I had to work online in the living room, while my wife could watch TV, read or talk on the phone in the bedroom. Having a kitchenette also helped, allowing us to eat our breakfasts and an evening meal at our home base to save time and money. Perhaps the best thing about Verna’s brownstone is the value for the money. I guarantee you will not be able to find a suite in a decent Manhattan hotel for anywhere close to the price of Verna’s place. My wife and I stayed with her for 10 days and made a friend in Verna. If not for Verna’s place, our trip would have had to have been much shorter. If you come from a small city, you will have to get used to big-city transportation. Travel takes longer than you expect, especially early on when you are figuring out how the system works. If you plan to see sights in Manhattan, give yourself about an hour to ride the subway. If your destination is on the J line, it won’t take that long, but it takes about an hour if you have to transfer. As a tourist, you learn to get ready, take the subway to Manhattan and eat lunch and dinner while you are out. You can certainly find good places to eat in her Brooklyn neighborhood, but we often wound up eating close to a show or museum. Take a bottle of water with you (Verna provided us free water and orange juice in our refrigerator when we arrived). The subway stations are not air-conditioned, and if packed with bodies, the cars won’t feel air-conditioned either. And wear good walking shoes; urban living requires a ton of walking to and from subway stations in addition to all the walking and standing in line you will have to do as a tourist. It takes a toll on your feet and ankles. Above all, Verna’s place was more than a hotel. It became our home for a week. We really enjoyed our stay and enjoyed getting to know Verna. --Jim and Fran Muench, Columbia, MO
