The main part of the house was built in the 1880s, in the traditional Finnish style of square cut logs, but it has all the modern amenities you'd expect in a home today. Whether you're here for fishing, canoeing, snowmobiling, just the quiet of the northwoods, we know you'll enjoy your stay.

There is easy private access to the state snowmobile/ATV route directly from property. Park your trailer for the weekend and ride directly from the yard.

The space
This home was the original farmhouse for what was once a dairy farm. The property no longer has cows, but was transformed into a wedding and event center in 2012 for our daughter's wedding. Our home had attracted so much attention over the years that we've now decided to open it to renters.

We provide a fully kitchen stocked with all the utensils, dishes and cookware that you need; an electric fireplace; two Roku smart TVs (with Netflix, Hulu, and BluRay-DVD player); carefully maintained ponds and gardens; and open WiFi network covering the grounds.

We strive for 5 stars, so please let us know right away if anything is amiss so that we may rectify the situation as soon as possible. We want your stay with us to be memorable in the best way possible!

Guest access
The House is one of many buildings on the property that make up the Brule River Barn Wedding and Event Center. Guests have access to the House and its gardens, the parking area, and the outdoor smoking area. The parking area may be shared if there are guests in the Cottage at the same time.

Other things to note
As we host weddings and other large events from Memorial Day through mid-October, we have plenty of parking for all your guests or toys. We're only 3 miles from the state ATV and snowmobiling trail and about 12 miles from the mouth of the Brule River, so our location is great to park your snowmobile, ATV, or boat right in the yard.

We are licensed as a Tourist Rooming House with Douglas County and undergo annual inspections by the health department. Our facility ID is KZUN-AACQMR.

Location

Brule, Wisconsin, United States

Even though Brule is a town of 600, there's no shortage of things to do. Whether you're drinking coffee on the porch, kayaking the Brule, or shopping in Canal Park, you will never be bored.

The Bois Brule ("Burning Wood") River is the best-known river in the Lake Superior watershed. This river is famed especially for its trout fishing, revered for its prolific mayfly and stone fly hatches.

The lower river (near Brule, WI) falls 328 feet over 18 miles through the rocky Copper Range region. Here, flashing cascades tumble over rocks and ledges and between steep river bluffs forested with aspen and balsam fir. This makes the Brule especially good for canoeing and kayaking, with a number of available runs that vary from short and flat to longer and more adventurous.

Duluth is only 40 minutes from this quiet getaway, and boasts many local shops with unique offerings, as well as a thriving arts and entertainment culture. There are also many top-notch eateries in Duluth. Enjoy Duluth during the day, and relax at the house at night.

I am a wife, mom, and businesswoman that loves to create beautiful gardens and curated spaces for many to enjoy. In 2012, my husband and I started a wedding and event business on our property, and in 2016 we started offering our homes as vacation rentals. My husband--Kirk--and I fell in love with this property back when it was a fallen-down, junk-filled leftover from the original settlers of the era. Over 30 years we restored it to its former glory and transformed it into a cozy, loving home to raise our family. When our daughter got engaged, she wanted to get married on our property. We spent half a summer renovating our old barn for the purpose, and had such a special time! Afterwards, people asked to use the barn for their own gatherings. and so the Brule River Barn was born. Our specialty in the event business has always been welcoming our clients like family, and so it was a logical progression to invite guests to come stay with us year-round.

During your stay
I live very close to the property, so I can typically make myself available if you need anything. You may see myself or my husband around working on the Barn or gardens, though.
