Great location
95% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Entirely renovated 17th century building, in Strasbourg. Located walking distance (about 300 meters) to the Cathedral, boat tours, shopping, and museums. Two flight walk up, approx. 40 sqM/430 sq.ft. Bâtiment datant du 17ème siècle, entièrement rénové, dans le centre historique de Strasbourg. Au deuxième étage sans ascenseur, environ 40 m². Propriétaires parlent français, anglais et allemand, disponibles, et ne vivent pas très loin.

The space
While the location is convenient, there are some bars and restaurants in the neighborhood whose patrons often step outside to smoke. Some have outside seating. Since it's a pedestrian zone, there is no traffic noise. By law, the people outside have to quiet down at 10pm and you have the right to contact the police if there is a problem. Obviously this is more of an issue during the warmer months with the windows open. Generally, the climate here doesn't encourage spending long periods outdoors most of the year.

The entire building is non-smoking. There is no balcony and smokers have to completely exit the building. Our policy is very strict in this regard. Absolutely no smoking in the apartment, even leaning out a window, in the shower room, etc.

We're very sensitive to cigarette smoke and will be able to tell if someone has smoked in the apartment. If smoking outside will be a problem for you, we strongly urge you to book elsewhere.

Where you’ll be

Strasbourg, Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine, France

This is really in the very heart of Strasbourg so everything is a short walk away. You're spoiled for choice when it comes to restaurants. We're happy to give restaurant recommendations, especially for something specific (seafood, cuisines like Alsatian or Indian, big group, etc.)

The shopping area is very close too. Head to Place Gutenberg and Place Kleber just beyong.

There are two grocery stores in the area, both near each other. There is a shopping caddy in the apartment for your use. There is a Simply grocery store on Rue des Grandes Arcades, on the right, before you arrive at Place Kleber open Monday to Saturday 8:30am to 8:30pm.

There is a Monprix on the same street, just a little further up with the same opening hours. I prefer their selection and the grocery section is located in the basement. If you want to buy other items in Monoprix, like cosmetics, select those first and take them with you before going down to the grocery area. Oddly, they allow you to purchase anything from other sections of the store down there but if you do the opposite, you have to purchase it separately upstairs, with your groceries in tow. So shop upstairs first, if you need to.

Unlike other French cities, Strasbourg is very closed on Sunday so plan ahead. The law is interpreted strictly here and even in tourist areas, almost all stores are shut including the bakery across the street (but there are others open). If arriving on a Sunday, think about getting basics at the train station to get you to the next day before heading to the apartment. There is a Carrefour City open 9-12 on Sundays but it's a bit of a walk away, near the Gallia tram station.

Restaurants and tourist attractions are mostly open.

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, I've lived in France since 1996. My husband and three children were born here in Strasbourg. I was a Flight Attendant for 13 years, working long-haul international for two airlines. I've been to over 50 countries and have taken some of the tips and tricks from the many places I've stayed to make these apartments the most convenient and comfortable possible. My son, a student at the University of Strasbourg, helps me out and speaks French, English, German and Dutch. We don't live far so don't hesitate to contact me during your stay.
