Argoed Barns is perfect for couples who want to get away from it all, to relax and recharge their batteries amongst beautiful scenery. There is something for everyone, from the adventurous outward bounder to the laid back lounger, whatever the time of year. The accommodation is flexible to enable up to five guests to stay in a combination of superking and/or twin beds.

The space

In the summer you can relax on the decking with a chilled glass of wine and watch the sun go down and the stars come out (we are a Dark Sky Reserve after all). In the winter you can return from a day on the hills, have a long soak in the bath and then snuggle up in front of the log burning stove with a mug of cocoa and a good book, watch your favourite film or play a board game. Bliss!

Guest access

Guests are welcome to stroll around the grounds although The Byre has its own, obvious private area including decking. Cyclists are very welcome to store their bikes in the big barn where they will also be able to carry out general maintenance.

Interaction with guests

We are more than happy to give advice on all aspects of your stay: places to visit in the area, suitable walks, cycle rides, outdoor activities, indoor experiences (e.g. on wet days) etc. We can also recommend great places to eat.

Other things to note

Just about the only downside of rural living is the exorbitant cost we pay for a very slow internet. This means that it is not suitable for those who were intending to work during their stay. It is fine for checking emails but we kindly request that guests refrain from downloading large documents or streaming. After all, you're coming to relax and unwind...

We had a lovely time at Argoed Barns! The barn was large enough for the 5 of us (1 toddler, 2 small dogs) with spacious bedrooms. The kitchen offers everything you need. Also the wifi was way better than expected. All in all a nice couple of days!

Amanda is a fantastic host and gave us such a warm welcome. The home is beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable and has incredible views over to the Black Mountains on one side and the Brecon Beacons on the other. It is conveniently located close to the best walks and the pretty towns of Brecon, Hay and Abergavenny. I would highly recommend staying here.

This is a beautiful place to stay, with stunning views over the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons. The conversion of the Byre has created a luxurious haven. The decking outside is the perfect place to have a barbecue and watch the sun set on the mountains. The wood burner and beautiful baths inside make for wonderful rest and recuperation after long walks in the hills. To be greeted by a lovely chocolate cake on arrival made the stay even more special.

Amanda and her husband Barney were lovely. They made us feel very welcome and checked that we had everything we needed. The cottage is beautiful- the beds were super comfortable and we loved taking relaxing baths in the huge roll-top ones in the cottage! The view from the cottage decking is stunning and it is a great base for walks in the Brecon Beacons, eating in nice cafes and pubs nearby and shopping in Talgarth and Hay-on-Wye. We stayed with our 5 month old baby and it was perfect for her- she loved seeing the goats and chickens and had we needed it there was a travel cot. Thank you for such a wonderful first family holiday Amanda! X
