Aldo's flat is the perfect place for a chill holiday for 2-4 people. Myself along with two friends/coworkers were looking for a quiet place near the beach and cultural places/museums/historic sites. We wanted a place to relax after a long month of hard, stressful fieldwork.
The flat is smartly decorated with a nice collection of art prints on the wall and white tile floors. It was clean and the light colors help it feel cool even when it is brutally hot outside, like it was this summer. Be aware there's no air conditioning, but if you are careful to keep the shutters closed during the sunniest parts of the day, the flat stays quite cool inside. It has a modern kitchen and nice appliances. There was a supply of the essentials: coffee, milk, olive oil, salt, etc. It was only missing one thing: a corkscrew! The towels are soft. The mattresses on the beds and pillows are very comfortable, very firm (memory foam, perhaps). I was staying on one of the bunkbeds and I was surprised how comfortable it was. Also, the shower was really nice and the bathroom is big and includes a washing machine. There is a place to hang out your laundry just off of the balcony.
Aldo and his parents are great hosts. They greeted us with sweets and showed us everything we needed to know about the flat. Also they have an amazing garden and they generously gave us tomatoes, zucchini, and lemons. We didn't see them that much since they took their vacation for most of our stay, but when they were away they were still in contact and responsive when we had an issue with the wifi.
The flat is perfectly located for exploring the area, going to the beach, and relaxing. You do need a car and there is a dedicated parking space. Calice is a charming, quiet town in the hills with some fantastic restaurants and cafes that are walking distance from the flat. The flat has a beautiful view looking towards the mountains. Our first night we sat out on the patio and watched the approach of a fantastic thunderstorm. While the house is along the road, the flat is in the back so you don't hear any traffic or noises from the street. If you are a super light sleeper, it might be worth bringing earplugs as there are some dogs that bark in the distance during the night sometimes. It didn't bother us, but we noted it.
Finale Marine (the beach) is accessible, only a ten minute drive. But when you are in the flat you feel a million miles away from the craziness of the Riviera beaches in the hight of summer. Finalborgo, a beautiful medieval town full of shops and restaurants, is 8 minutes away.
We had a great stay and would definitely recommend Aldo's place!
