About this listing

Enjoy peace and birdsong in our cosy cabin. Built from recycled materials and nestled in a quiet valley overlooking native forest.
Come, relax in the hammock, make tea on the fire, unwind.
A popular choice for eco-conscious nature enthusiasts.

The space

The cabin is a studio style single room which includes a mezzanine loft bed (queen mattress) with an additional fold-out futon bed downstairs. There is easy access to an outdoor composting toilet and fire-heated shower, as well as a fire-heated outdoor bath.
The cooking facilities are a bit rustic, but if you are up for an adventure, you can cook your meals on top of the fire-heated range, or inside the oven. There is also a toaster, a double hotplate, and a toaster oven for your convenience. The cabin has running water and a kitchen bench for preparing easy meals. There is also a mini fridge that can be turned on if needed.

A private deck overlooking the native bush is also available for a bit of bird-watching and relaxation.

Interaction with guests

While we live on the property in a nearby cottage, visitors will have privacy during their stay. If desired, we can arrange tours of the property where we explain and demonstrate some of our horticultural projects including the extensive gardens and food forest. Or visit with the chickens, ducks and pigs.

Such an incredible place to stay. Loved every minute of it and can't wait to visit again. Felt very surreal, a one of a kind experience.

A perfect weekend get away if your into a relaxing, laidback and back to basics retreat. Cooking facilities are limited but we managed home made pizza and bacon and eggs for breakfast. If you have a can do attitude then you will love it here. Sitting out under the stars with a wine was just magic and the outdoor bath is a real blast. The hosts are very accommodating and allowed us privacy and respect.

Olmec and Misa are realising a vision of how to live a holistic life while working with rather than against nature. As a couple who are also working according to permaculture principles we were impressed by how much Misa and Olmec have achieved. The accommodation reflects very much the overall ethos of the property. While some may find it somewhat basic or rustic, it is a beautifully crafted oasis that allows peace and quiet and a nurturing of the soul.

We loved our stay here. It is peaceful, simple and idyllic, with a lovely outlook over a river valley and the sound of birdsong and running water below. The photos dont do it justice - the outdoor shower set in the beautiful gardens is a real treat. Loved the animals which Misa kindly showed us.

Lovely secluded spot, tucked away out the back of a beautiful permaculture garden. The sound of the creek and the birds helping you drift off to sleep. Misa and Olmec were great hosts, the fire was on for us when we arrived. Thanks!

Misa & Olmec User ProfileMisa & Olmec is a superhost.

We moved to this location in 2009. Since then we have been actively developing and refining a low impact, sustainable, natural and healthy setting that is both beautiful and productively functional.

We welcome our visitors and make them feel at home. If interested we can provide tours and explanations of some of the interesting features of our property including the extensive gardens, food forest, chickens, ducks, pigs etc.
