We source as much locally as we can. Our cheese comes from the Cliffs of Moher and Buren Geopark. Our Bacon comes from Galway. We grow our own tomatoes, bake all our breads, and all our eggs come from our flock of chickens.
By sourcing as much of our food as possible from local producers and our gardens, we reduce the food miles (the distance that food must travel to get from farm to fork) of the food we serve. Our menu indicates the food miles of every dish we serve.

Your hosts and global travellers, Darra and Niall Hughes know what it takes to cast off your worries, sink into a vacation and to taste and feel the place you’re in.
Doolin-born Darra learned hospitality at her mother’s knee just across the road in Horseshoe House. It was one of Doolin’s first farmhouse bed and breakfasts which her parents opened on their farm in the 1970s. Darra has always had a close link with the farm and as a child she would rise early to bring the cows in for milking and collect freshly-laid breakfast eggs for her mother’s guests. To this day Darra’s own children carry on this egg collecting family tradition.
Niall first came to Doolin from Tipperary in his twenties and fell in love with the place, the people, the music, the Atlantic Ocean and the Aran Islands. Two years later he fell in love again and married Darra right here in Doolin Village.
In the Irish tradition, Darra’s father gifted a plot of land to the newlyweds where their dream of Sea View House was realised and their house was built to take advantage of the outstanding views of Doolin with a deck and terraces overlooking the Aille River and the Atlantic Ocean.
Twenty years later Sea View House has grown and evolved from the simple accommodation of earlier times into the award winning bed and breakfast Darra and Niall are so proud to welcome you to today.
We have high standards and a passion for local, sustainable produce which has gained us recognition in our innovative use of local, hyper local and foraged ingredients. In our eyes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it’s why we personally prepare our guests’ fresh and sustaining breakfast every morning with some of the best raw ingredients in the world.
Not only is Niall a keen cook and gardener, he’s also an accomplished horseman and carries on the tradition of the family farm where Darra’s grandfather kept Irish Draught horses and thoroughbred stallions. Darra’s father, Paddy, developed and grew the dairy farm on the lush land in Doolin which also provides the nutrient rich soil for Sea View House’s poly tunnel where Niall grows organic ingredients essential to his unique, creative and award winning breakfasts.
The kitchen at Sea View House stretches out into our garden where we pick our fresh herbs and across the Aille River to our farmyard where our chickens cluck and lay their eggs. Tucked around the corner is the hub of our organic larder where Niall grows a veritable rainbow of fruit and vegetables ready to pick and pop in the basket to be served to our guests.
Clucking fresh eggs from our own chickens
Organic cheese from cows and goats that graze the Burren pastures
Tomatoes and herbs picked from our own garden
Wild berries foraged from the lush hedgerows
Seaweed gathered by hand from our local Wild Atlantic Way coastline
Hand harvested salt from the Atlantic Ocean under the Cliffs of Moher
Cold Smoked Organic Salmon from the award winning Burren Smokehouse
Niall has created a simple, delicious and fresh goats cheese frittata with our home grown tomatoes, those clucking eggs with their bright yellow yolks and little artistic flair with our fresh herbs all brought together with that delicious locally sourced goats cheese. All less than 10 food miles from farm to fork. You can really taste Ireland in this dish.
Our guests love our sumptuous breakfast buffet of home poached fruits, handmade Burren cheese, home made yoghurt, breads and much much more. We really enjoy baking every day and produce a range of fresh cookies and muffins as well as a variety of breads which are delicious with our late summer blackberry jam. Here in Doolin we are truly lucky to have local artisan slow food suppliers as our neighbours right here in the Burren and they provide us with regular fresh deliveries of their organic cheese and award winning smoked salmon.
Ireland’s mild climate, clean seas and fertile soil provides a rich variety of free ingredients and in the spring and summer we gather seaweed at low tide, dry it and use it as a seasoning in some of our breads and we make our own salt from seawater taken from underneath the Cliffs of Moher. Ireland’s natural hedgerows are laden with blackberries at summer’s end and we love the purple stained fingers we get from blackberry picking before creating an exquisite home-made blackberry jam that’s only available to our guests.
By sourcing almost all our food from local producers and growing them on our farm or in our garden, we have significantly reduced the food miles it takes to create our delicious breakfasts. That means that the distance that your food travels to get from farm to fork is low, the food is fresher, our carbon footprint is smaller and you can taste the place in everything you eat at Sea View House. Our menu indicates the food miles of every dish we serve.
