A traditional older styled two bedroom house, nestled among trees, allows for a nice private and cosy relaxing stay. Situated in the closest residential village to the Tongariro Crossing. The perfect place to unwind after exploring the area; hiking the Tongariro Crossing. 10 min walk to the railway, or 15 min drive to Mt Ruapehu, the house is very central to restaurants. Featuring a well equipped kitchen & a heatpump, ideal for a small family or couples. Includes linen. Wifi. Self cleaning.

The space
The kitchen has a microwave, electric hob/oven, jug, toaster, fridge/freezer, slow cooker and waffle maker. The cupboards are full of supplies and we are more than happy if they get used if you’ve run out of something.

There is a small TV for use with the DVD player provided, and a range of DVD's, there is no TV reception.

On rainy days you can snuggle up with a good book, watch a DVD, play cards or just have a good yarn with each other.

Affectionately known as the Ruapehu Alpine Retreat this is a great place to relax and unwind. We can't wait for you to experience our relaxing cottage for yourselves.

Where you’ll be

National Park, Manawatu-Wanganui, New Zealand

The National Park village is the highest settlement in NZ, only 4 streets

If you enjoy hiking there is the famous Tongariro Crossing, with a door to door shuttle service available. There are many other great walks in the region. Check out the Owhango Lagoon for a beautiful 2 hour walk through the bush. There is also the Tama Lakes, Silica Rapids, Whakapapaiti Valley, Taranaki Falls & plenty more.

Town offers great dining experiences. 8 minutes walk away is the lovely Railway Cafe and the start of Fishers Track and the Marton Sash & Door Cycleway. Located just 6 minutes walk away is The Schnapps bar where you can enjoy dinner and a drink and a game of mini putt for the kids.

Only 15 minutes from Mt Ruapehu, there is an excellent visitor information centre at Whakapapa to help plan and utilise your recreation time and learn about the volcanos and The World Heritage National Park. Summer chairlift rides to the summit of Ruapehu weather permitting. Why not have a High Tea at the Chateau (highly recommended!!)?

If you are into mountain biking there is the Fishers track, 42nd Traverse or head to Horopito and do the Old Coach Rd to Ohakune. While you’re there call into the fascinating Smash Palace/ Horopito Motors full of vintage car wrecks piled on top of each other. (as shown in the movie “Hunt for the Wilderpeople) The kids will love it!!

I’m a keen gardener, hobby beekeeper, enjoy reading and meeting people. I especially loved travelling around Germany and Italy when I visited Europe in 2008. I have worked in the UK and United States. I’ve holidayed in Australia, Rarotonga, Niue & Samoa. I love New Zealand and have travelled around most of NZ at some stage, spending 8 years studying and then working in the South Island. I love the outdoors, and have done the Tongariro Alpine Crossing 5 times now, with different weather each time! I really enjoy hearing what guests are planning to do, and learning of their experiences too! I am happy to give guests information on the best to places, eat, drink and highlights of the area. My favourite movie right now is "Hunt for the Wilder People" a great kiwi movie!
