Overall, I really, really loved this place. The location was phenomenal! The apartment was recently renovated and was essentially brand new. The host was great at providing most info up front and getting me checked in and out promptly. The view is INCREDIBLE!!!
I did have several issues, however:
1. The building was under construction. Unfortunately, the host did not communicate this to me prior to my arrival. There were workmen in and out of the building Monday thru Friday and would park their cars directly in front of my unit. Workmen would smoke and talk right outside my window. The front door security wasn't resolved until about a week in to my stay (my first night I had a homeless guy in the hall outside of my unit making lots of noise) but has since been resolved. I dealt with all of this fine, however, should have been told to me when booking.
2. The parking lot is a problem. I was provided with a parking pass but, many nights, there were no parking spaces left. The first time this happened I parked in the middle of the lot (there was sufficient room) but received a $75 dollar ticket for doing so. The host did not tell me about any other parking options and, when I tried to call her for instructions, I couldn't reach her.
3. The "chess park" outside of the front window is a haven for bums and homeless. This makes keeping your window open overnight pretty much impossible. Lots of crazy rants, swearing, and weird stuff going on. The good news is that I believe that burglar bars are being installed (which will allow future residents the ability to keep the windows open overnight or when you step out for a bit without worrying about the vagrants).
4. I had to cut my stay short by 4 days (out of 34) due to a family emergency and the host did not refund those days and did not respond to a couple of emails I sent to her about this. I thought this really bad. While I understand if someone simply refuses to refund my unused stay, at the VERY LEAST they should communicate this to the client. Two emails went unanswered and, again, no refund.
Would I stay there again? Perhaps. Can't beat the beautiful location right on the beach. Apartment is in excellent condition. Wouldn't bring a car with me. I'm sure the construction work will eventually be done. And kinda of a bummer to have to navigate all the bums outside, however, that's kinda Santa Monica.
