Cosy, comfortable second-floor bedroom with a full-sized bed and private bath. Easy drive to Kennett Square, PA and Wilmington, DE in the heart of the Brandywine Valley. Longwood Gardens and Winterthur are less than 15 minutes away, and the Philadelphia airport is just 35 minutes. Spacious kitchen, living room, patio and yard are available to you as well.

Please note that I do not accept long-term bookings. My maximum stay is one week.

The space

My stone house dates from 1817 and was fully remodeled and renovated in 2010--leaving the period charm, but adding thoroughly modern bathrooms, heating, AC, and kitchen facilities. The Old Master room has beautiful built-in cabinetry, a laptop-size desk and chair, and a great bathroom with a deep tub and a heated floor.

I rent another bedroom in this house as well: please search the Hockessin listings for the Loft Bedroom (queen bed, bath).

The Old Master bedroom is on the second floor. It is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.

Please note that I do not accept long-term bookings. My maximum stay is one week.

Guest access

The kitchen and living room are yours to share, and you can cook meals for yourself as long as you clean up! There is no TV in the bedroom, but there is a TV in the living room.

Interaction with guests

I am happy to provide guidance on local attractions and restaurants, and I love to share meals with guests who so desire.

Other things to note

The Brandywine Valley area is chock-full of natural beauty, history, arts, and charming restaurants. World-class art and decorative arts collections, some of the most celebrated public gardens in the US, and more than 300 years of American history are all here. Outdoor activities include hiking, birding, inner tubing, and fly fishing in the rolling hills and rivers around the area.

Driving just a little farther gets you to the northern reaches of the DE/MD Eastern Shore or the countrified delights of Lancaster County, PA. I love this area and I hope you will too!

Julie has a beautiful home that is perfect for nature lovers. Her view from her kitchen of the flowers and birds is calming and restoring. She is close to many places you'll want to go to in the area.

Staying with Julie was like visiting a childhood friend. She was a wonderful host, very accommodating. The Old Master is spacious and comfortable, the house is amazing. It's 20 minutes from UD, and 15 minutes from Longwood Gardens. Fast internet, so great for a work trip. I'd stay again in a heartbeat.

Julie's home is lovely and comfortable. She is very interesting to talk with and is welcoming and helpful with suggestions for dining places, etc. I look forward to staying there again if I'm lucky enough to have the opportunity.

Nicely appointed home on a busy street with road noise at night (unless windows are closed). Couples may find the bed springs to be too noisy. Basic amenities (ok for a guy). Hospitality: coffee in the morning, nice conversations. Host is an interesting traveled/educated person. Price is a little high for an AirBnB, but maybe that comes with the proximity. Recommended for male or female business traveler. The home has two guest bedrooms. I stayed in the second floor room (not the renovated attic space which was more private).

Julie User ProfileJulie is a superhost.
Super well traveled individual with good stories to tell about the 75+ countries and 46 US states I've experienced. Lover of great food (cooking and eating!), interesting culture, and places way off the beaten path. I'm a quiet person who generally goes to bed early and gets up…
