Third-floor bedroom with queen bed and luxurious private bath with tub and separate shower. Easy drive to Kennett Square/Wilmington, in the heart of the Brandywine Valley. Longwood Gardens and Winterthur are less than 15 minutes away, and the Philadelphia airport is just 35 minutes. Spacious kitchen, living room, patio and yard available to you as well.

Please note that I do not accept long-term bookings. My maximum stay is one week.

The space

My stone house dates from 1817 and was fully remodeled and renovated in 2010--leaving the period charm, but adding thoroughly modern bathrooms, heating, AC, and kitchen facilities. The Loft room is very spacious and private--you have the whole third floor to yourself--and includes a great, modern bathroom with a soaking tub and a heated floor.

I rent another bedroom in this house as well: please search the Hockessin listings for the Old Master (full bed, bath).

The Loft bedroom is on the third floor. It is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.

Guest access

The kitchen and living room are yours to share, and you can cook meals for yourself as long as you clean up! There is no TV in your bedroom, but there is a TV in the living room.

Interaction with guests

I am happy to provide guidance on local attractions and restaurants, and I love to share meals with guests who so desire.

Other things to note

The Brandywine Valley area is chock-full of natural beauty, history, arts, and charming restaurants. World-class art and decorative arts collections, some of the most celebrated public gardens in the US, and more than 300 years of American history are all here. Outdoor activities include hiking, birding, canoeing, inner tubing, and fly fishing in the rolling hills and rivers around the area.

Driving just a little farther gets you to the northern reaches of the DE/MD Eastern Shore or the countrified delights of Lancaster County, PA. I love this area and I hope you will too!

Beautifully and thoughtfully remodeled stone home with backyard birds and crickets - a nice little escape not far from the main highways. Julie was a welcoming host and made staying there comfortable...allowing us freedom to use the kitchen to make our breakfast. She was helpful in directing us to bike trails in the area which is what we did in addition to nearby Longwood Gardens.

This stone home is tucked into extraordinarily gorgeous countryside, with its own lush gardens. My room was steeped in charm and very tastefully appointed. Pristinely clean, totally updated, while retaining old world elegance. I was visiting on a pretty intense business trip, yet my moments in this home made it feel like a mini vacation. And Julie could not be more delightful and thoughtful as a hostess. Even though I didn't want to leave, I left inspired! Highly recommend on every level!

One richness of AirBnB is the opportunity it provides to see someone's lovingly and painstakingly built castle, and Julie's place is a spectacular example. A magnificent juxtaposition of the old (200 + years) and the modern, set in a bucolic semi-rural area on the Delaware - Penna border, it is one of those places that must be seen live - pictures and words are so inadequate.

Julie User ProfileJulie is a superhost.

Super well traveled individual with good stories to tell about the 75+ countries and 46 US states I've experienced. Lover of great food (cooking and eating!), interesting culture, and places way off the beaten path. I'm a quiet person who generally goes to bed early and gets up (too) early, keeps a neat house, and appreciates a clean bathroom and a firm mattress. I am a very considerate guest, and as a person who's stayed in a lot of great hotels, I'm a host with a good idea of what makes a pleasant and convenient stay! While my life involves travel across the globe, I am thrilled to have a lovely, comfortable, down-to-earth home base that is built for the simple pleasures of gardening, cooking, and sharing the fruits of both with friends.
