My place is close to Fishing, River Nith, Woodland and Valleys. The situation of this listed cottage is on a private track, very peaceful and nestled amongst established mixed woodland. The beds have memory foam mattresses with cotton sheets. Centrally heated with wood stove. Opposite the cottage is a woodland track leading to our 1.3 acre walled garden which produces organic fruit, vegetables and herbs. Hosts are situated 2 minutes walk away out of view to allow for your own privacy.

The space

The cottage is located on a private track as part of an old estate dating back to the 16th Century. Full of charm and history, the Back Lodge is a well maintained, recently refurbished listed cottage with original features, attractive wallpapers throughout and styled for comfort and relaxation. A victorian walled garden is located 90m from the front door, hosting a variety of organic fruit trees and bushes, vegetable and herb beds. The garden is surrounded by 8 acres of mixed woodland and paddock owned by the hosts, therefore you are guaranteed peace, quiet and privacy. The hosts live in a cottage 2 minute walk down the private track to assist with any questions and to welcome you, but out of sight for your privacy and feeling of being completely surrounded by nature. 10 minute walk from the cottage is a well reputed and popular fishing beat; Barjarg Fishings with a comfortable fishing hut and 3 miles of salmon fishing. Permits can be obtained in advance of your booking.

Guest access

The cottage is self-contained and booked for the private use of our guests with no immediate neighbours or other cottages, you are left alone to enjoy your stay in peace and quiet without any interruptions.

Interaction with guests

As we are a family living in another cottage 2 minute walk away, as hosts we will be happy to help with any aspect of your trip from planning excursions, recommendations of restaurants, shops, events, pubs, taxis, walks, beauty spots etc. We know the area very well and are more than happy to help make your trip memorable and enjoyable.

Other things to note

The cottage is centrally heated throughout and also has a wood burning stove in the living room to keep it cosy in all seasons. There is parking directly outside the cottage. We can also provide a 'welcome breakfast' or hamper of locally sourced produce (at extra cost) if you want to taste some local recommendations and start your stay on a full stomach before getting your shopping in. Additionally we can source flowers, champagne and chocolate if you are planning a surprise romantic stay. Please do not hesitate to ask in advance if we can help make your arrival perfect. You will also notice on the photos that the beds are generally arranged as singles, however we are happy to re-arrange the beds to become doubles on request. We reserve the right to refuse bookings for work-use depending on the nature of your work, please contact us in advance if this is your intention.

Jakob's cottage is straight out of a fairy tale. It's in a nice secluded area. If you're looking for quiet then this is the place! It's also beautifully decorated. Thanks again for a great stay!

Great remote location (but not too remote) with stunning countryside and dark skies for any stargazers out there. Jakob was a very welcoming host and we had a great time escaping from everyday life for a few days

My girlfriend and I had a lovely stay in Jakob's beautiful country cottage. The setting is idyllic and the cottage itself is full of character. Our stay was quiet and relaxing, we never heard a noise all night apart from the birds and the nearby stream which was lovely. It real feels like you are away from it all and a quiet night in with the log burner roaring was just what we needed! All amenities we good and we would certainly return. The nearby town of Thornhill has all you need and a couple of really lovely coffee shops. If you need a night or two away from the hustle and bustle I could not recommend this enough. Communication throughout was great. Thanks Ben

If you want a remote location in the middle of nowhere which is spotlessly clean and roomy then this the one for you. Lived it and would use it again

This was a lovely, short break at Jakob's place. It's a beautiful place in an idyllic location. The cottage is part of what was a wider estate, great to escape in the countryside for walks. Jakob very kindly offered instructions for locating the cottage which were very helpful. Check-in very smooth and the cottage was really well equipped. Particular highlight was the wood burning stove which added charm to the cottage. The internet is a bit slow, though this is to be expected given the location (and, well, hopefully you wouldn't be visiting here to sit on the internet all day!) Very comfy beds too. Jakob and Breezy are close by should you need them, but they were happy to let us get on with enjoying our stay. Highly recommended! Hopefully be returning here soon.

This is just the loveliest little cottage snuck away down a quiet road and so comfortable and warm. It's beautifully decorated and adorned with original pieces of art work, and treasured bits and pieces. As an artist I always make notes if I stay somewhere that looks really beautiful and original, and this was one such place. It felt like a loved home. The bed was super comfy, as was the sofa, and the kitchen had everything you could possibly need. Log fires and candles - gorgeous!

This is a great place if you want seclusion but also ideal for various attractions- I visited the lead mines at Wanlockhead. There were also still plenty of wildflowers and roe deer just wandering around. I took a little DAB radio and was pleasantly surprised at the wide selection of stations... more than I get at home. I did lots of reading writing, drawing and yoga. A really enjoyable stay.
