40mins to the beautiful Algonquin park & steps to gorgeous walking/snowshoe trails through a forest situated behind the property. This rustic bunkie is the perfect place to get away. There is electricity but no running water (thus no indoor bathroom/kitchen), an outhouse is located behind the bunkie. You also have access to an outdoor hot tub.

In the summer there is an outdoor shower, there are no bathing facilities in the winter.

There is NO HUNTING permitted while staying here.

The space

Nestled on a spacious property in the beautiful Hastings Highlands, the owners live on site in the main house. It's minutes from the quaint town of Maynooth, and about 30 minutes to Bancroft. This rustic bunkie features a bunk bed in the bedroom with a double bed on the bottom and single on top, and a double bed and single bed in the main room. Extra mattresses (a double and a single) are available as well.

Equipped with electricity, t.v.s in both rooms, and dvd players are located in both rooms, and a small DVD collection and game collection is available.

There is no running water in the bunkie, for meals there is a toaster oven, microwave, mini fridge and kettle inside the bunkie, and a BBQ and outdoor portable firepit outside.

Wifi available upon request at no additional fee (heavy downloading not permitted).

While there is no running water, there is cute outhouse located a short walk away and bottled water and a pitcher and bowl are in the bunkie. There is an outdoor “camp shower” in the summer months.

Space heaters for both rooms are included for chilly nights. The bunkie stays nice and cool in the summer, but this means the floors get quite chilly in the winter. Rugs are provided but we recommend socks or slippers.

There are excellent walking paths through the private forest situated behind the property.

This place is an excellent getaway for a couple, family, or friends looking to get away from the city. Arrangements can be made for people travelling with young children (and there is an extra mattress for the floor if anyone is travelling with a or infants (including a bassinet that is available at no extra cost, or an additional mattress for the floor) Please contact us with any questions. Due to the forest in the back and fire bans, Fires are not permitted on this property during the day or during certain times of year (drought conditions.) There is an outdoor, portable firepit for use when the ban is not in effect.

Owners are typically available at the main house (which is close to the bunkie) during your stay, and accessible via cell phone as well.

Other things to note

This was a fun cottage close to Bancroft. It was super quiet and the hosts had thought about every possible convenance. Host was quick in responding to my questions. Would definitely stay again.

We had a great stay in this awesome bunkie! Like described, it was cosy yet clean and provided enough space for 6 guests. Sitting in the hot tub in the middle of nature, with an outdoor toilet and shower was a true experience and more comfortable than I initially thought. There were quite some mosquito's around in the evening, however Elyse and her mother (being great hosts) thoughtfully set up a mosquito-free tent where we could sit. The available BBQ and firepit gave a nice finishing touch to our stay. I would recommend this to everyone who wants to escape busy life and indulge in nature.

Great little cabin getaway. Everything was clean and comfortable. Although the host was not on the premises, she was available for any issues that may arise. There were a few games and dvds to choose from when we were stuck indoors from the rain. I would recommend to friends and family.

We had to bail on camping plans in algonquin park b/c the black flies were unbearable (in early june still!) for us and 2yo we were travelling with as well. Elyse's place turned out to be a very last minute option, and essentially served as a lovely and quiet cottage home for a few days. I've always hated the concept, but with kids, i suppose sometimes necessary....this was pretty much a 'glamping' experience. That said, this spot would also be a great place to stay for a romantic night or two in quiet country. Only downside may be the no running water to the cottage...but i suspect if they had it it wouldn't be as affordable a spot. Highly recommended, either way. easy to get to, big property for hiking around in, lovely town a 5 minute walk or 1 minute drive away, can't really go wrong.

The rustic bunkie was fantastic. It rained the first day we arrived, and since we visited last weekend of May, the bugs were awful! The house was adorable and everything was well arranged when we got there. Elyse's mother had set stuff out for Claire our little 2 year old. It was an awesome surprise. Keep in mind, it really means rustic. There mini fridge is small so don't bring too much food of your own if you plan to do so. It is equipped with all the essentials though, towels and everything is clean. The bunkie was close to bancroft and maynooth for groceries and food if needed. Given the season we went to visit, bugs were awful because of the grass yard surrounding the bunkie. The bunkie also has a bug problem. Amy and I had found many ants in the bunkie, some alive some not. They kept coming back too, it was a continuous issue. This issue was mentioned to the host and hopefully something will be done. We were perfectly fine with the bugs, but just putting it here to let those who aren't know and be prepared. Thanks to Elyse and her mother for a great weekend.

Stayed there for one night in May and loved our time there. Very simple yet comfortable stay for a great price. The bunkie was also spacious with a double bed, a single bed, and a bunk bed. Communication was excellent between the host and I. Everything advertised is true.

Hi there! I'm a recent graduate from the University of Prince Edward Island and will be attending Lakehead University (TB) in the fall for grad school. I travel quite a bit, and I'm helping my mom rent a furnished bunkie on her property. If you have any questions about it feel free to message me.
