The cottage is located on a quiet dead end-road directly on the waters of Skaneateles Lake. There is 125 feet of lake frontage including dock, sea wall and shale beach all in very close proximity to the cottage. The access to the lake is flat - either by our sea wall or beach. The back yard on the lake side is largely private from the neighbors due to the angled shape of the house, landscaping and the size of the property.
The house has been designed to bring the views and atmosphere of the lake inside by the use of sliding glass doors, moveable walls and a large integrated porch at the center of the cottage. The lake is visible from all 3 bedrooms.
Skaneateles Lake is a reservoir for the City of Syracuse. It is considered the cleanest of the Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes Land Trust is trying to create a necklace of green space around the south end of the lake to help preserve the forest land. They have a preserve directly behind our property (the trail is accessible from off of route 41.

Interaction with guests
We will show you through the cottage when you arrive and then leave you on your own. We are available by phone if you need anything.
Other things to note
There is also a convertible couch in the living room that sleeps 2 people and a large couch is an option for one more.
We do have an oven, but it is a small counter-top model, not big enough for a turkey or pizza.
The cell reception is spotty. Sometimes it works in the house, but I can almost always get through out on the dock. The problem is that the lake is in a deep valley and the tower is on top of the hill, so the signal passes over us. Texting from the cottage works fine, at least with Verizon.
Because there is no access to cable we cannot provide WiFi. While it is possible to get service from a cell carrier, the small bandwidth allotment makes it impossible for us to offer it. There is a coffee bar (Origins by Coffee Mania) with free WiFi 15 minutes away in Homer. It is right at the corner of route 281 and 41 where you turn to come up to the cottage (95 Clinton St, Homer, NY).
My mother has some folk art from the rural South that depicts various religious and social scenes and individual figures (the Last Supper, a "shotgun" wedding, angels, spacecraft). These objects are art works and do not reflect religious beliefs. They may challenge your usual perspectives on life, but that is what art is all about.
The local neighborhood consists of mostly vacation homes owned by families, some of whom have small children. Please respect their privacy by keeping quiet after 10 pm.
In addition neighbors, pets and children all use the road as a sidewalk, so please drive SLOWLY through the area (esp. as and after you come down the big hill onto the land at lake-level).
Our check in time is between 3 pm to 9 pm; we cannot accommodate check in after 9 pm.
Our check out time is 11 am.
Please park in the field behind the house, not on the side of the road.
Please do not use any of our boats.
Please read the Cottage Welcome Info sheet that you will find on the front hall table when you check in.
The cottage is non-smoking. You are welcome to smoke outside the house, but please clean up when you do.
Any garbage taken outside must be bagged and placed in a can and covered with the can's lid. This is to prevent animals from getting it. The cans are located to the south of the front door.
I live in Ithaca, NY and spend the summers on Skaneateles Lake where I sail, windboard, hike, birdwatch and work on our cottages.
