The cottage is located on a quiet dead end-road directly on the waters of Skaneateles Lake. There is 125 feet of lake frontage including dock, sea wall and shale beach all in very close proximity to the cottage. The access to the lake is flat - either by our sea wall or beach. The back yard on the lake side is largely private from the neighbors due to the angled shape of the house, landscaping and the size of the property.

The space

The house has been designed to bring the views and atmosphere of the lake inside by the use of sliding glass doors, moveable walls and a large integrated porch at the center of the cottage. The lake is visible from all 3 bedrooms.

Skaneateles Lake is a reservoir for the City of Syracuse. It is considered the cleanest of the Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes Land Trust is trying to create a necklace of green space around the south end of the lake to help preserve the forest land. They have a preserve directly behind our property (the trail is accessible from off of route 41.

Guest access

You have access to the entire cottage with the exception of a locked store room. The dock, water front and the field behind the property are also included. There is another small cottage on the property that is not included in the rental. This cottage may be occupied.

Interaction with guests

We will show you through the cottage when you arrive and then leave you on your own. We are available by phone if you need anything.

Other things to note

There is also a convertible couch in the living room that sleeps 2 people and a large couch is an option for one more.

We do have an oven, but it is a small counter-top model, not big enough for a turkey or pizza.

The cell reception is spotty. Sometimes it works in the house, but I can almost always get through out on the dock. The problem is that the lake is in a deep valley and the tower is on top of the hill, so the signal passes over us. Texting from the cottage works fine, at least with Verizon.

Because there is no access to cable we cannot provide WiFi. While it is possible to get service from a cell carrier, the small bandwidth allotment makes it impossible for us to offer it. There is a coffee bar (Origins by Coffee Mania) with free WiFi 15 minutes away in Homer. It is right at the corner of route 281 and 41 where you turn to come up to the cottage (95 Clinton St, Homer, NY).

My mother has some folk art from the rural South that depicts various religious and social scenes and individual figures (the Last Supper, a "shotgun" wedding, angels, spacecraft). These objects are art works and do not reflect religious beliefs. They may challenge your usual perspectives on life, but that is what art is all about.

This was our second visit to Robert's house on Skaneateles Lake. We certainly hope it won't be our last. The house is beautiful, comfortable, and well-equipped; the lake is peaceful (the water is cold in June!); the garden is incredibly private. What a perfect spot.

Plenty of room, great location on lake for family. The view is great, lawn space is huge. We brought an inflatable kayak with us and enjoyed exploring the lake. All essential kitchenware is provided, which was nice. It'd be better if the air ducts were cleaned because when we visited, they were full of dust and spiderwebs. Beware that there is almost no cellular service in the house--which wasn't specified in the listing. The art can be disturbing and takes getting used to.

Response from Robert:
The cell reception is spotty. Sometimes it works in the house, but I can almost always get through out on the dock. The problem is that the lake is in a deep valley and the tower is on top of the hill, so the signal passes over us. I will get this info into the listing ... small oversight on my part. As far as the art is concerned, in my opinion that is what it is supposed to do ... disturb, provoke and upset our usual perspectives on things ):.

Wonderful space and location. Tons of room with a great lakefront yard. Would absolutely recommend to anyone whether you're looking for a quiet family spot or a weekend with friends. The layout of the house made it very private and cozy.

Wonderful place! Location is strikingly beautiful, house is large with lots of light. Very clean and well arranged. Greeted by Debbie, who gave us an excellent introduction. the owner Robert was fantastic - very helpful before and during our stay there. On the edge of one of the finger lakes. New grill. Overall, a real gem!

This was hands down my favorite AirBnB stay yet. We wish we could have stayed longer. The location is spectacular - right on the lake, which has super-clear water that's lovely for swimming, with an extremely pleasant level lawn between the house and the short sea wall at the water's edge. There's a little ladder for climbing into the water, and also a shale beach a little way down the property for an alternative entry option. The house is magical: an unspoiled mid-century modern architectural gem. The architecture brings the lake indoors in every room. The angled shape of the house also insures that the back yard by the lake feels extremely private: you can barely see the neighbors' property. The kitchen (not pictured in the photos) is cute (vintage 1950s) and extremely functional, and well-stocked with everything you might need (right down to a salad spinner!). There are even some basic condiments, etc: oil and vinegar, ketchup, mustard, mayo, salt, pepper, sugar, tea, aluminum foil... a really nice touch, we thought. The beds are huge (two king-size?, plus the twin + bunk beds in the third room). We came with a toddler, and Robert was kind enough to tell us about a bumper for the glass coffee table in the living room (to cover sharp corners). More generally: Robert was communicative, flexible about check-in and check-out times, ready to help if needed but also left us to ourselves. We felt very well taken care of! We swam, grilled, basked in the sun, kayaked (in an inflatable kayak we brought with), watched the sunset, made s'mores by the fire-pit and stared up a the night sky. Our toddler loved splashing in the shallows and playing with the stones at the water's edge - many of which have little shell fossils! We couldn't have wished for a more relaxing break. Thank you so much - we hope to be back many times!!

I live in Ithaca, NY and spend the summers on Skaneateles Lake where I sail, windboard, hike, birdwatch and work on our cottages.
