The space

Hummel House is located on Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands. We are a 40 minutes ferry ride from Anacortes Wa. and about 100 miles north of Sea Tac airport. There is shuttle service from the airport to the Anacortes ferry landing.. When you arrive at the Hummel House you will find four cozy bedrooms with a shared bath on the second floor of a five bedroom hand crafted family home in a woodland setting over looking Hummel Lake, a thirty two acre fresh water lake. We have photo of only one bedroom at this time. Others will be photographed soon.

Our family has lived almost forty years in this unique home which we designed and built ourselves. We heat with wood, have chickens, a large vegetable garden, fruit trees, flower gardens and a greenhouse. Children are welcome.

Lopez Village, a half a mile away, provides several dining choices as well as bike and kayak rentals with beach and woodland trails close by.

We have just received our first reservation for the week end of Tour de Lopez. This is an annual bike tour with several organized events on April 26th. Please go to the Tour De Lopez web page and get more information about the events scheduled for that day and to make reservations to participate in the tour. Reservations are limited . We expect to have a full house for this event so make your reservations with us early as well.

We have shared our home for many years with interns, travelers and visitors from the United States and other parts of the world. Our lives have been enriched by each guest’s story.

Lopez Island is very quiet during the off season. Would love to go back to do some kayaking and see whales.

Carol and Al have the pioneering spirit. They lived in a tent and built their house themselves 40 yrs ago. Their trees and garden produce wonderful fresh food that you can enjoy at breakfast in season. They share helpful info on what Lopez is about, and even called to make sure we got a reservation at a restaurant Carol recommended.

We really enjoyed our time at Himmel House. Carol and Al are great hosts and a joy to speak to at breakfast and upon returning from a day of sight seeing. We highly recommend Hummel House.

Carol and Al were very warm, kind, and accommodating hosts. We enjoyed the hearty breakfasts as well as the conversations with them! The B&B has comfortable beds and a beautiful garden with fresh fruit ready to be picked from the vine. Centrally located, about a mile to the Village and 4 miles to the Lopez Ferry. Great place to stay, and Carol and Al made it special.

This is a lovely place to stay that will truly enhance your experience on the island. Carol and Al went above and beyond to make our stay fabulous. They were so generous providing sumptuous breakfasts full of fruit from their trees. They provided excellent advice on what to explore on the island as well as plenty of space during our desired alone times. They were simply the perfect hosts and we are most grateful!

Carol and Al were great hosts and for me I loved the toast with the home made bread. It was a nice time in the morning having breakfast with the other guest. We love meeting people in our travels. I am sure we will see Carol and Al again in our travels to Lopez.

I am a vital 71 year old mother and grandmother. I direct and produce community theater, host a radio program, am on several boards and active in my community in many ways. I am a retired social worker. My husband and I have lived on Lopez Island for almost 40 years where we garden and host family and guests . We also host an annual three day juggling festival on our ten acre property in the fall .
