The entire house is the subject of this listing. It's the companion residence to the house where we live year 'round. The homes are separated by two 2-car garages. Renters of the house have room for one car in the attached garage. This layout creates very good privacy, there being no connecting walls.
Interaction with guests
We're available by phone or about 100' away to chat if we're home. Mostly, our guests can rely on us for information about restaurants in the area, directions for travel - and we include wi-fi connection in the rent so their own hi-tech equipment can provide them with directions, etc. Occasionally, we find ourselves around the same campfire on our grounds; but we're very sensitive to our guests' preference for privacy.
Other things to note
We provide the pass for our guests who want to use the tiny beaches on the private lakes we enjoy. Our roads are well-tended hard-packed dirt roads; so they make good hiking in view of the very slight road traffic. We're tolerant of pets, but the pets must be closely supervised, and well-mannered in strange places. We do charge a $100.00 pet fee to account for the extra cleaning time we spend following the departure of a party of guests with pet/s.
Becket has access to the Appalachian Trail off Rt. 20 and Washington Mountain Rd. Other hiking sites are at state and municipal parks including October Mountain State Park, among others. Three tiny diners are open for breakfasts and lunches their menus for dinners and hours vary. The Dream Away Lodge should be visited for at least one night of excellent, eclectic dining and varied live music presentations from March 17 until Thanksgiving every year. There are quaint shops and 19th century inns 20-30 minutes away in Lee, Lenox, Stockbridge, Great Barrington and Pittsfield where a broad array of international restaurants and music venues will be found. But, relaxing in Becket means quiet in the country.
NO smoke, candles, incense, indoors. Pets must be planned-for in advance; all dogs must be on leash and "picked-up after." We provide receptacle for poop baggies. We recycle, local rules require it. No motor boats on the private lakes; no dogs on swimming beaches. Canoes/kayaks, rafts, must be cleaned to prevent zebra mussel contamination.
We have a dog and cats who are not free to roam. We charge extra cleaning fee if you bring your pets. We prefer that your dog/s have their own crate/s if you must leave it/them alone while you're away for a few hours.

Robb and I are both semi-retired, and we built this project and moved in less than 3 years ago. It's important to us that in-floor radiant heat is supplemented by passive solar and that our, "footprint" is as small as we can manage. We dearly love living in this young forest. Wild berries and wildflowers surprise and intrigue us with the changes of every season. We follow news on BC and local outlets; and watch Free Speech TV and reruns of "Castle." We brew tea in a pot with loose leaves; we dine gluten-free and cook for our cats and dog. Favorite dining-out spots are local Indian and Vietnamese restaurants as well as Dream Away Lodge (look it up on the internet) and the diner a mile away that scrambles fresh eggs and home made home fries for breakfast.
We read authors as diverse as Elaine Pagels and Janet Evanovich. Our cars are 8 and 15 years old. We listen to music from the 18th century to the 21st; remember when the "golden oldies" were "top 40 hits" and appreciate skilled blue-grass pickers as much as wonderful cool jazz musicians.
We take pride in honoring your privacy and are deeply grateful for, and consistently pleasantly surprised by, the tender care our premises get from our paying guests.
If you need bigger area that's more private, look into our 3+ B.R. fully furnished house with attached garage, right next door.
