A guest bedroom with queen-size bed located in the beautiful Chestnut Hill neighborhood of NW Philadelphia. We are located only 1.5 blocks away from the Wyndmoor Regional Rail station to Center City and six blocks from the Chestnut Hill West line. It is an 8-mile drive, if you prefer, but plan on spending 20-30 minutes commuting. We are also just 1 block away from local shops and restaurants on Germantown Avenue.

The space

BEDROOM
Your bedroom is the door to your right at the top of the stairs. The bedroom door is marked with an Arizona License Plate. In the bedroom there is a dresser on the far right where you can store clothes and the closet to the right is yours to use as well. Hangers are provided. An extra pillow is on the top shelf in the closet. There are hooks on the outside of each closet door you can also use.

We use the other closet to keep our coats and a few other household items, so on rainy or cold days we may need to access your room if we do not anticipate a weather change before your arrival. We will let you know ahead of time if we ever need to access that closet.

On the console to your left, you will find two coffee cups, two water cups, a Keurig coffee machine and K-cups (coffees, teas, hot chocolate) for your use. Sugar and creamer are also provided. We ask that you clean and reuse your cups during your stay. Dish soap is under the kitchen sink. At the end of your stay please leave your used cups in the kitchen sink. A waste paper basket is to the right of the console.

BATHROOM
The house has two baths. We reserve our newly remodeled 2nd floor bathroom for our guests. We use the basement bath – so no worries about sharing. In the middle of the night however, we reserve the right to use the 2nd floor bath for convenience sake. The bathroom is the middle door at the top of the stairs with the District of Columbia license plate.

The bathroom has an open glass walk-in shower, large mirrored cabinet, sink and toilet. Extra toilet paper is kept in the cabinet above the toilet. When showering, we ask all of our guests to use the provided bathmat and to squeegee the glass wall when finished (the squeegee is in the shower). Feel free to use the soaps and shampoos on the shelf to the left of the shower knob, or you can use any of samples in the basket left on the console in your bedroom. The other items on the back shower shelf are for decorative purposes only.

Towels, wash cloths, and a hair dryer are provided for you in the top dresser drawer in the bedroom. There are hooks on the back side of your bedroom door to hang wet towels.

Guest access

Depending on your arrival time or day, we will give you keys to our back door personally, or we will give you instructions to get your keys if we are unavailable.

Interaction with guests

My husband Tunc, (pronounced "Toonch") and I work different schedules, but I usually work from home Mon., Wed. and Fri. We generally are home most evenings and weekends.

We are friendly, but we also respect your privacy and ask the same of our guests.

Other things to note

We ask all visitors to remove their shoes at the door.

We have recently received a lot of inquiries about kitchen use. Since this is our private home and a shared (and small space) we do not generally encourage kitchen privileges.

We have also been asked a lot about very late check-ins. Although we try to be accommodating, but it can be intrusive, and especially since we both work disruptive

Thank you.

CHECK-IN (ARRIVAL)
Upon arrival, we will give you a key to our backdoor. If for any reason we cannot meet you at your arrival time, we will send you instructions for getting your key.

PARKING
On most days there is ample street parking in our neighborhood, especially around the park that adjoins the back of our property. Do not block crosswalks, park too close to stop signs, and pay attention to posted signed, or you may get ticketed. Otherwise street parking is free and you do not need a permit.

SHOES
To help us keep the house clean, we ask all guests to remove their shoes at the entrance. Thank you for understanding.

GUESTS
We purposefully limit the number of guests to 2 people to ensure comfort. This maximum number includes a child, i.e. if you are traveling with a child, we count the child as the second guest. We only accept children who are used to being around dogs for both their and our dog’s comfort and safety.

For your safety and ours, we request that you do not bring other non-registered guests into the house.

Drug use is not tolerated.

QUIET HOURS
We observe strict quiet hours before 8 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

There is a TV in your room and a blue-ray player. Sorry, we do not have cable, but you can access a few local channels via an HDTV antenna. If you plan on staying in a night, we can point you to the closest Red Box to rent a movie to use with the player.

INTERNET
We have free Wi-Fi throughout the home. We will provide you access information after you arrive.

IRONING AND LAUNDRY
An iron and ironing board is available upon request. These are shared items, and we store them in our bedroom. We only use distilled water in the iron, and will provide it as necessary.

For longer stays or emergencies, you are welcome to use our washer and dryer. Please let us know ahead of time so we instruct you on their use.

KITCHEN
Guest are free to use the filtered refrigerator water and ice. We will leave you clean glasses in your bedroom for this purpose.

BAXTER
We have a small dog, Baxter. He is a friendly black and silver miniature schnauzer with very expressive eyebrows. He will greet you with lots of energy, but he settles down quickly once he has made himself known. He may invite you to play fetch by bringing you a toy. If you are game, then toss away, if not, just ignore him. He knows the drill.

We recommend you keep your bedroom door shut at all times, so he’s not tempted to snoop. He is not destructive, so no worries there, but if you have food items and they are left unattended he’s a quick little thief.

Speaking of food. Please do not give him treats, although he is very endearing and will try to hypnotize you with his charm. He has a very sensitive stomach and some allergies, so we keep him on a strict diet. You may also hear Baxter’s food dish invite him to eat about every three hours, so do not be shocked to hear a voice in the house other than your own if we are not there.

Please do not let Baxter outside alone. He is a good boy and does not run off, but just be aware when entering or exiting the house he thinks the opening of the backdoor is an invitation to go for a walk.

CHECK-OUT (DEPARTURE)
At checkout please leave your wet towels in the shower and we'll change the bed linens after you leave. Place dirty glasses/cups in the kitchen sink.

If for some reason we are not home when you depart, we ask that you lock the back door (deadbolt first, then the knob), and put the key through the mail slot in the front porch door.

Have a great stay!

10/10 stay While it’s not IN the center of Philly, Chestnut Hill was an incredible surprise. The train is also about a block away and super convenient. Baxter is also the best dog and the home is decorated to perfection! Thanks for an awesome trip to Philly!

This home is immaculate. Beautiful guest room with a very comfy bed and a modern and stylish private bathroom. We chose this location because it really is prime for the Harry Potter festival in the Fall. However, what these amenities boast in comfort, they lack in hospitality. Not only did we feel underfoot the entire weekend, and about as welcome as a fungus, but we awoke very excited for the day of the festival only to hear one of the hosts loudly bemoaning and making denigrating comments about the festival. Truly disappointing after having read countless comments on how friendly these hosts were.

Response from Michael:
Dear Katrina, We are sorry you felt unwelcome. Our feelings about the festival and the general disruptions it causes in our neighborhood is not a reflection on you. It is however a very real statement about the disruptions the event causes in our neighborhood. We were very clear with you upfront that we discourage cooking by our guests. You asked for kitchen privileges and we relented, which was a mistake we regret making.

Michael and Tunc are lovely, adorable and very helpful. They have welcomed me as a friend, introduced me to their friends, shared with me their free time (we on the beach...), and their (delicious) meals! Regrets concerning the best tomatoes I've ever tasted... I hope we'll keep in touch. Definitely a good option if you're in this area !!!!

Staying with Michael was great! I had to stay a week for work and felt comfortable the whole stay. The location is great for easy access to restaurants and bars on germantown avenue. Would highly recommend this place to anyone staying in the area!

Michael's place is in a residential neighborhood of Chestnut Hill, close to shops and restaurants. It is well appointed, clean and in a quiet location. This is the second time we have stayed here and we will be back again soon. Micael and his partner were very accommodating and made our stay memorable.
