This former Montessori style preschool turned mountain bunk house is a unique experience for the whole family. Situated on a working homestead where kid friendly animals abound, it backs up to the National Forest and is a year-round playground. Speaking of playgrounds, the kids can run and play right in the back yard, taking advantage of the play area and wonderful climate. This is a favorite stay for hunters, skiers and explorers. If animals and wildlife are not your thing, do not book here.

The space

Guests staying at this bunkhouse in the past have described it as a wonderful adventure. Right outside the front door is a duck pond, right down the hill is the chicken coop and goat pens. The rabbits and horses like to hang out down there too. These animals grew up around children because for many years this was the home of New Beginnings preschool where working with the animals and in the garden was a part of the curriculum. :) Miss T still will gladly show you how to feed the chickens and find fresh eggs for breakfast. You can cook s'mores on the fire pit and listen to the owls and the elk. After a good snow you can walk on over to the sledding hill and wear yourself and the kids out. Snuggle up near the pellet stove or hang out in the sun room. It really is one great adventure after another.

Now if you don't like animals and hearing ducks and roosters or a dog barking at the elk at night, this probably isn't the place for you. This is real mountain life.

Guest access

You'll have private access to the entire bunkhouse that includes two bed rooms, living, kitchen, laundry and large full bathroom. The bunkhouse has it's own fenced yard with direct access to the fenced duck pond area. You'll have shared access to the attached passive solar sunroom

Interaction with guests

Miss T and Mike love guests and they will respect your privacy. If you have questions, they live next door. If you would like some fresh eggs, just ask. They have lived up in the area for 14 years and can give suggestions on where to go and things to do and see.

We had a lovely weekend at the bunkhouse. It was quiet and located in such a beautiful area. It was great to be able to walk around the grounds and walk out the gate into the forest! We loved that the bunkhouse was family friendly and kid proof. It still meant lots of attention to our little one as our daughter is only 1, so we had to be careful with her getting into things, but it was so comforting to know we were in a family friendly space. We were able to fit a pack and play nicely in the bedroom with 2 beds to give her a safe space to sleep, since she can't sleep in a bed just yet. We look forward to going back when she's a little older and can enjoy and interact a little more. The kitchen was nicely appointed which made cooking and grilling super easy! The bed was comfy, shower was hot and the entire cabin was so cozy and full of the necessities and several niceties like movies, Netflix, books and games. The fresh eggs were such a special touch and a great addition to our breakfast. My husband was thankful for the coffee pot! I would definitely recommend staying here! It would be perfect for families with kids!

This was our second time staying at the bunkhouse in a two month time period. In June, we first discovered this gem of a place, and now in August, we felt like this gem is the most precious of all! Truly an unforgettable destination that our newly turned 4yr old calls her "other home"! She in fact turned 4 while we were staying at the bunkhouse and Miss T was so thoughtful that she made my daughter homemade Lavender scented playdoh! Her cousins also received their own batch of scented playdoh to take back home. If there is a word that describes the bunkhouse hosts, it would be "first class". Generous, kind, and friendly. We look forward coming back for as long as we can. The place is clean, warm, inviting...everything you need in order to have a pleasant stay up in the mountains of Cloudcroft. Never again will we stay anywhere else in town.

This is a wonderful home for a family vacation and/or even a business trip! I went with some employees, and we enjoyed returning from a busy day of work to sit on the patio and enjoy the scenery and animals. Michael and Ms. T were very hospitable and took time to chat with us and introduce us to the animals around the property. I could not have asked for a better home to stay in, in such a beautiful mountain town. My family and I are planning to return soon for a family vacation.

Mike and Mrs. T were tremendous host. Our kids favorite thing about our vacation was going with Mrs. T to feed the animals! The house is clean and the animals are a great addition that children love!

Our stay here was a fun, relaxing and educational trip. Mike and Ms. T are great hosts. Our granddaughter loved the playground, the chickens, the ducks, the bunnies, Fancy and Billy. She was not a big fan of the goats, although we thought they were funny. This was her first time in the "forest." She thought that it was great. She said that "this is the best trip of my life." She's a little traveler.... so go from there. I highly recommend this adventure for families with children. EVERYONE will come away having learned something! Thank you Mike and Ms. T for providing our family with the opportunity to spend quality time together and for the things we learned. We'll be back to meet the new puppies.... May God continue to bless you fully and richly and may His light continue to shine upon you. Donna Baca
