Our family hired both the Log Cabin and the Studio for six nights in late November. The Studio is situated across the drive, down some steep steps well below the Log Cabin. The steps have to be negotiated with care as it is easy to catch your shoes on them and might not be easy for people who are less mobile. Because we hired both houses, the whole family had use of the pool below the Log Cabin. The pool is nicely positioned and well-protected against wind. Unlike most pools in the drought-stricken Western Cape, it remains usable as it can be topped up from a mountain stream. Blackwood is an excellent base for staying in the Cape Peninsula as it is close to Hout Bay with its lovely beach and fishing harbour, supermarkets and restaurants, and Chapman's Peak Drive, and also Kirstenbosch and the Southern Suburbs. It's easy to reach Cape Town itself by driving clockwise or anticlockwise round the mountain. Traffic congestion in the Cape Peninsula is serious, so pick your travel times carefully. Both houses have stunning views across the valley towards the back of Table Mountain and Mount Rhodes to the left, with beautiful mountain silhouettes as the sun sets in the west. They are comfortably appointed and pretty quiet. The property is well-protected behind a sliding security gate. And Colette and Warren were very welcoming and helpful hosts.
Blackwood Studio is a lovely space in Hout Bay with a beautiful view. It is mostly quiet, though sometimes the dogs over the road can be noisy. I enjoyed my stay there and would definitely stay again. The internet seems a bit temperamental, which may be out of the host's control but I only received a reply to my message the next day. I also unfortunately didn't get the shower bucket (to help conserve water with the severe drought in the Cape) that I asked for.
Lovely little house outside of Cape Town. I really enjoyed my stay there! It's located on the property of Colette and her husband with their house and another holiday house, so I felt 100 percent safe there. But it's not right next to the other houses so you got great privacy and space. The furnishings are stylish and homely with the mixture of wood and modern materials and decorations. Perfect for a couple who doesn't want to spend their time in the hustle of the city, but wants to stay somewhere calm in the nature. I'll definitely come back there when I'm in Cape Town again and can totally recommend it! Thanks for everything Colette!
It was a great stay. The place itself has everything one needs: parking, plenty of electric plugs, shower and even a bathtub. All is very stylish and modern, competed with a great taste. The place is very safe and secure, we spent quite a few evening there, enjoying the view and the sunset from the bathtub. At night it can be quite cold, so in the morning one might need a pair of warm socks :-) Colette is very friendly and open person, I can definitely recommend her as a host.
