Great location

We are in a sunny, peaceful valley a short stroll from Portobello harbour-side village, with shop, cafes and pub. Half an hour's drive from Dunedin city and a few minutes from unique wildlife on the Otago Peninsula.
At Fat Weka Farm, we offer:
- a comfortable haven in your own separate lodge
- morning bird chorus, then a breakfast tray of fresh scones, homemade jam
and coffee
- walks and spectacular views on our 50 acre property
- meet our friendly dog Lexie and hand feed our sheep.

The space
This space has been newly built with travellers comfort in mind. It is a cosy self contained apartment with a comfy queen sized bed. French doors open onto a sunny verandah where all you'll hear is birdsong. Your private shower, toilet, basin and washing machine is a short walk across the courtyard. Robes and footwear are provided.
Start your day with a breakfast tray of home baked scones with Jeannie's jams or jellies and plunger coffee. Tea and coffee making facilities available in your room. There is dvd player, mini stereo, toaster and microwave oven. Refrigerator space is available to store food.
There is ample parking space available for guests.

Because we are in the rural zone we collect rainwater which means the water pressure in the shower is 'gentle'. You are welcome to wash any clothes and dry them on our clothes line or use our dryer.

Where you’ll be

Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand

We offer information about local attractions and wildlife viewing opportunities. We are happy to show and talk about forest restoration and Permaculture gardening on our 50 acre property. We have developed some great walking tracks and sitting places with spectacular views. These days our old dog Lexie doesn't move far but it always up for a pat. Our pet sheep Jack and Marmite love being fed sheep nuts by hand and expect a friendly nuzzle from Jojo.

The local Portobello hotel does a really good Blue Cod and chips and Penguin Cafe offers the usual cafe style fare. The local shop is very well stocked and has a large range of fresh and deli type produce.

From Portobello a scenic drive can take you one way to the city, and the other to several wildlife attractions on land and water, from albatross and penguins, to seals and sea lions. Port to Port and Monarch Cruises offer tours of the harbour and wildlife encounters. Experience night sky viewing over Hoopers Inlet and visit historic Larnach Castle with magnificent gardens and views over the peninsula.

I love to cook and get great satisfaction to harvest my own home grown food. We purchased this amazing property in 2015 and I have given myself the challenge of setting up a Permaculture orchard, berry garden and to grow enough vegetables to sell at the gate one day. As a cook I like to experiment with flavours and enjoy making jams and jellies from wildfare fruits that visitors can taste with freshly baked scones or muffins. Sharing what we have learnt about nature and gardening has been one of the drivers in setting up a B&B. We are lucky to live in a such a peaceful environment and would like to share our place with travellers.
