Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Fully self contained gypsy wagon located close to sandy beach of Porpoise Bay. No ocean views but beach is 2min walk. Very tidy inside. Super king size plush $3000 mattress. Cooking facilities with microwave & fridge. Log burner with wood supplied. BBQ area. All linen/towels included. This accommodation is located on our property beside our house. The toilet/shower is outside & located 9 meters away from the accommodation. Our gypsy wagon can sleep 2 adults and a baby maximum.

The space
The gypsy wagon is 9 meters long, it has a private outdoor balcony area with seating. At nights, you can hear the waves breaking on the beach and the penguins calling out your name. Its a very quiet relaxing location. Kitchenette comes supplied with a twin hotplate electric cooker, microwave, fridge, pots, plans, plates & cutlery etc. The wagon is heated by log burner/fire. It also has electric heating. Comes with all bed linen, duvet bed covers & towels. Tea, coffee, sugar & cooking oil is supplied free of charge. The gypsy wagon has no running hot water inside, only cold water, you need to boil hot water in the electric jug supplied. The outside shower has hot water. We also have a portacot for your use free of charge. Wifi is available for a $5 fee
I do not think this is suitable for elderly people due to toilet/shower located outside from the wagon.

Guest access
Full private BBQ area with seating, table and BBQ with propane supplied.

Location

Curio Bay, Southland, New Zealand

70% of our previous one night guests said they had wished they had stayed 2 nights or more. You cannot properly see all of Curio Bay and its wildlife in 24 hours. Two nights is recommended. Curio Bay sells itself. It is easily one of the most beautiful bays in NZ, luckily I get told that everyday.
Yellow Eyed Penguins to view most evenings, last two hours of light is best. Its only a 10-15 min walk from our accommodation to the Curio bay fossil forest where the penguins can be viewed. Dolphins are seasonal, summer months only. Sea lions most days at Waipapa Point, Surat Bay and Cannibal Bay. Nugget Point Reserve is also a good place to see seals from a distance.

During your stay
Yes we are always happy to answer any questions. Curio Bay is a very special place, nowhere in the world during summer months do you find Hector Dolphins, Penguins and NZ sea lions living all within walking distance of our accommodation. I am an ex-wildlife ranger and yellow eyed penguin lover so I know this area and its local wildlife very well.
