Description

The space

This guesthouse is located in the countryside on a working farm. It has great views all the way to a nearby mountain range directly from your bed across the rolling hills of the South Waikato countryside. The guesthouse itself is detached and private so you can come and go as you please with its own bathroom. The room is clean, quiet, light and well aired. We are happy to help so feel free to ask if you need anything.

Guest access

This is a detached guesthouse with its own shower and toilet and green areas around it. The main house has a separate clothes washing machine which you are welcome to use. The guesthouse is located on our working farm and you are welcome to explore the nearby farm areas and the native bush which is just a short walk away.

Interaction with guests

We live on the farm and have lived in the area for many years so are able to help with any questions you have about things to see and do in the area or even where next to go on your adventure.

The neighbourhood

This is a central North Island location only 10 min walk to Tirau (many cafes and stores to explore). Tirau is a hub for many central North Island attractions including the Hobbiton film set (15 mins drive), Mount Maunganui (popular beach and nightlife), Rotaruru (boiling mud and hot pools), Taupo (beautiful lake and town), various nearby waterfalls, Waikato river trails, golf courses, the Blue Springs (popular walk with crystal clear spring where most of NZ bottled water comes from) and many more attractions.

Getting around

Tirau has public transport links with the main cities in NZ via bus as it is situated on New Zealand's main state highway but in general getting around is best achieved with a car. For those with a car we have plenty of car parking and for those without we are 10 mins walk from Tirau or we can arrange to pick you up in some circumstances.

Other things to note

This is a working farm so its not uncommon to see the cows in nearby paddocks and tractors and machines working. Occasionally the livestock may be in paddocks nearby and then gates should be left as you find them.

Wonderful experience. Gwynn and family were extremely kind and inviting. It was the perfect country stay before visiting hobbiton. Highly recommend!

Gwynn's charming little farmhouse is situated on the outskirts of Matamata and a stone's throw away from Hobbiton / Shire's Rest by car. At the end of the scenic driveway clearly marked with the Airbnb sign, we met Gwynn himself who came out to meet us and to introduce the area around the farmland to us. We were thoroughly impressed with the cleanliness and attention to detail inside the guesthouse in which we stayed. The view from the main window looked out across the rolling hills and fields and was a wonderful sight at both dawn and dusk. Tea, coffee, crockery and cutlery were provided (and beautifully colour coordinated), as well as a kettle, toasted and fridge. Hot water was in abundance in the shower and bathroom and the beds were very comfortable. No television or cooking facilities were provided but that suited us just fine as we wanted to get away from the crowds and put our feet up. Beautiful stars in a clear night sky greeted us at night making our stay with Gwynn a truly unforgettable experience. Thank you again for hosting us and we will be back again!

Gwynn lived up to his title as a super host!He accommodated our last min request on setting up an extra bed and lending us a hairdryer. The place is exactly how it looks like in the pictures and is a short drive to Tirau where you can get good breakfast. :)
