We had a lovely stay at this cottage in Unst, sadly all too brief. The accommodation is well equipped yet still very cosy. Lovely duck eggs for breakfast. We really hope to be able to return for a bit longer soon!

Catriona has a beautiful old house in a fantastic remote location. We had amazing weather and Catriona gave us wonderful information on where to go. We spent an afternoon up at the hermaness nature reserve, a must! And a day over on fetlar. Also quite a nice trip to do. Our only complaint was with the beds. They are old mattresses on springs. If you need a hard bed, the floor will be your bed here most likely. It was for me. But i still recommend this place as it's such a lovely place to visit and Catriona is so welcoming. I just think the beds should be replaced or at least a wooden frame made for them so they are not so soft.

Response from Catriona:
Funnily enough I did a reply to Peter's review a couple of hours before this was written. That was agreeing that the beds will go. Clearly this summer has knackered them, so we promise we are putting in an order for 2 beds!!

Friendly hosts in a beautiful place. Cottage was warm and cosy even when the northern weather turned bad. Will definitely stay again if I'm on Unst again.

Catriona' cottage has a big potential to become a very comfortable Airbnb. From the cottage you get a beautiful view over Baltasound and Catriona's hens and ducks give you a cosy countryside feeling. The cottage has a big kitchen where you can cook. Shops are only a short drive away. If you need a basecamp to explore Unst this is the choice! But some improvements have to be done to make give the cottage five stars. Two out of three beds are worn out and very uncomfortable to sleep in. The furniture in the livingarea are also worn out and need to be replaced. These improvements will give future guests a more comfortable stay and earn the cottage five stars.

Response from Catriona:
You are right about the beds, Peter, and we are ordering two new ones. Thanks for making the point. However we do think that the rest of the cottage is in good order, given that we aim to be four star comfort/cosiness/affordability, not five-star super-chic.

The cottage has a beautiful setting on the southern shore of Baltasound and is in a good location for the local shop and for exploring all of Unst. The complimentary eggs from the ducks and hens made wonderful scrambled eggs for breakfast

Travelling by public transport would have posed a big problem once on Unst so i really appreciated Robs transport to Hermaness which was one of the most stunning walks ive ever made

Live at the very north of Scotland, like wildlife/nature, music and living with my husband/2 daughters. Have cats, chickens, ducks and resident ponies.
