This cozy unique home is located 5 miles north of Tahoe Donner in a quiet residential neighborhood directly across from private trails into the Tahoe National Forest, the Tahoe Donner Adventure Center, XC Ski area, and beyond.

The space

This unique home can comfortably accomodate as many as 7 adults, but because it is a new listing, it is currently not stocked with enough linens and towels for that many people. Additionally, there is only parking for 1 car during the winter months and no more than 2 when there is no snow. If you have a group that would still fit within these limitations, feel free to reach out!

Internet/wifi: there is wifi on the property, but the Internet provider has been having trouble providing reliable service during the winter (snow moves the receiver, freezing temps mess with electronics, etc). Therefore I am forced to tenporarily remove this from the list of amenities. Cell phone reception has always been excellent (Verizon, Sprint, AT&T have all been personally tested), so setting up wifi hotspots should work.

Guest access

The house and surrounding sundeck as well as a gravel parking space in front of the stairs/trail to the front door.

Guests will not have access to the garage or the apartment above the garage.

Access to all private Tahoe Donner amenities with a day use fee of $8/guest.

SNOW REMOVAL:
1. The roads and driveway are plowed regularly (once per day) according to the storms (meaning they only plow when there is snow). This service is included in the cost of the rental and is the reason winter rates are higher than summer.

2. If there is a winter storm during your stay, you might be snowed in (or out!!). When traveling to the Sierra Nevada during the winter, it is always highly recommended to be prepared with enough food to last for the duration of your trip, flashlights/headlamps, an emergency shovel for the car, a 4WD/AWD vehicle with chains and enough clearance for berms left by plows, as well as warm winter clothing that allows you to be out shoveling snow for potentially hours at a time in sub-20-degree weather (there have been quite a few 10 degree days already!)

3. If you would like to have daily shoveling service during your stay, this will need to be arranged. Price per shoveling ranges from $50-$100 depending on the amount of snow, but can go much higher and is charged on an hourly basis. There are also shovels at the house that can be used for free.

Interaction with guests

I am available by phone, text, email, or Airbnb messaging and will let guests know when I am offline for an extended period of time (usually because I am running trails without cell phone access :-D)

Other things to note

Preparedness and self-reliance are key!

Attempting to travel during a storm is NOT an excuse to leave a car on the road or blocking the access drive that is shared with neighbors.

Tahoe Donner is a quiet residential neighborhood, not a resort with regular plowing and emergency support services. Please keep these things in mind when planning your next trip to Truckee and be prepared! :-)

There is only parking for 1 car and any guest vehicle must be in the designated parking spot to avoid having their car towed at a cost likely not to be less than $500 (not to mention any impound fees that might accumulate).

Even during heavy snow storms, plows rarely reach the driveway more than once per day. This means that if you decide to leave with the plow and then get snowed out, you and your guests will likely need to find an alternative place to stay that night.

During the winter, you must drive a 4WD/AWD vehicle. If your vehicle gets stuck in snow, you must dig it out or arrange for a service to do so for you.

Do not disturb the neighbors for any reason.

Host is not available outside of normal business hours unless arrangements are made. If you plan to arrive late (and during a snow storm) please be advised that you might have trouble locating the property in the dark and your host will likely not be available to help you.

Please remove shoes at the door and leave the house as you found it (used linens and towels on the floor in the lower bathroom). The cleaning fee assumes no excessive messes!

Anything requiring additional cleaning will be deducted from your deposit.

Be sure to turn off...
* the water,
* gas stove (leave the pilot light on),
* all lights
before leaving and make sure the key is back where you found it.

Wash all dishes and please do not leave excessive garbage behind (e.g. do not fill the weekly can for a weekend stay). Reasonable amounts of garbage for the length of your stay may be placed in the bear can.

Thank you!! :-)

Loved this little dome home. The back road leads to Tahoe in no time. The town of Truckee is full of fun shops and plenty of food. One of our favorite days was on the west side of Donner Lake. Grass, shade, lake, kayak rentals, not overly crowded. Super peaceful. We loved coming back to our cabin and wished we could stay longer. It looks and feels bigger than the pictures show. 4 adults had their own sleeping spaces. We shopped the first day and cooked up great meals with the fully stocked kitchen.

Stacie is lovely to work with, quick to reply and eager to accommodate. The view from the deck is just beautiful, high up the hill. We hope Stacie will soon buy some outdoor furniture so guests can sit out on the deck to enjoy the view without having to pull out the dining room chairs. The neighborhood is quiet and comfortable, and we felt fortunate that the next door construction was on hiatus while we were there. Also, the house is very oddly shaped, making it challenging to furnish or to accommodate more than a couple. But it was clean and had the basics, so with the view we felt it was a fine place to stay.

This is the perfect getaway! I found peace, solace, and a spectacular view to compliment on top of a mountain! The house is close to just about anything you may want to do. I stayed for 2 weeks from June 25-July 5th. Perfect time to visit. Donner Lake is a skip and a hop away where you'll find kayaking, swimming, jet skiing or boating! If that isn't your vibe, you can hit Boca/ Billy Hill reserve where you will find miles and miles of off road dirtbike trails! My favorite thus far! Northstar is about 15-20 min. drive south where downhill Mt. biking is all the rave! It was absolutely amazing and fun!! Drive south about another 5-10 min and you hit King's beach for a super fireworks show on July 4th!! Can't beat it!! This was an absolute amazing trip that was punctuated with a superb host! She is easy to communicate with and left perfect directions and descriptions of location of house and rules. She was incredibly accommodating and even provided a complimentary bottle of wine and a mini fridge when the fridge went out for a day. Yes, just a day and she was quick to remedy the situation! I would definitely recommend this very cute spot to anyone looking for a nice and quiet retreat after playing hard in the surrounding areas! Oh, and one more thing, should you be fortunate to rent this little jewel of a home, don't miss hiking Castle Peak trail!! It's about a 20 min. drive from the house and crosses with the PCT where you may run into some back packers who might share their fascinating stories of their journey!! I had a magical time here and hope all those who follow experience the same!

Originally from California, I grew up in the Bay Area, frequently visiting family in Tahoe and Los Angeles. Currently living in San Francisco, I enjoy being outside for long endurance runs, cycling, hiking, kayaking, and gardening, as well as being inside for yoga, reading, or playing some musical instruments. When not in the city I enjoy spending time in the mountains, especially Truckee! :-)
